10 hrs seems like a fair estimate on time (if you are new to album design)and $1250 seems reasonable to me. However, you must ask yourself what are you worth. Maybe much more, perhaps much less.

I own Albums Anonymous at www.createmyalbum.com. I pay the designers $100 per album (24-40 sides). It typically takes about 8 hours when they start. After designing 15-20, they can usually get that time down to 4 or 5 hours. We use a template program and modify from there. We also train them, so there is consistancy to what we produce.

$8 per hour sound pretty cheap unless you are real slowwwwwwwwwwwww!

Anyway, paying by the hour doesn't make much sense to me.

Here is my try. I agree that it should be shot better in the first place. But sometimes momments happen and you get what you can. I am usually not prepared for an major action shot during the ceremony either. And I have been in the wedding, album design business nearly 20 years.

I have been giving free photos to vendors for nearly 20 years. When they ask to buy your images they really want you to offer to give the images for free. If you do so on a timely basis they will promote your business. Anyway, if the image is striking a bride will likely ask about who shot it.

I used to have to pay for the images I provided to florists, caterers, etc. Now, I can just email it at zero cost.

I always spend a few minutes in photoshop to make the image really pop. Add contrast and saturation, as well as remove anything that distracts.
