Ellis I appreciate your opinion, your writing however is atrocious. You need an editor.

Andy- ?Rembrandtplein,Amsterdam?

I'd print it as a vertical, with the fountain slightly off centre and the posts/urns (too distracting) cropped out.

With this field camera you'll have to slide the front standard back, towards the rear standard (assuming use of the short focal length).
As a result the lens and film plane will likely not be parallel: tape a mirror with hole on spare lensboard, place 2nd mirror in filmplane, facing lensboard mirror. Peek through hole @ frontend and align, only then do your composing, focusing etc.
Simple bathroom mirror will do but glass, not plastic. About 1/4" thick (mainly for strength in the field), cut to size of choice, they'll drill hole for you. again about 1/4' diam. 2nd piece about 4x8"
I leave front board/mirror in place at all times, other piece in pack.

I once disabled an M body (in the camerastore). I flicked (broke) off one of the eyelets that form the hinge of the camera back, the springloaded hinge pin shot away from under my nail and "pop" went the eyelet- a clean break.

Are you sure he shoots large format? 35mm (Leica) as far as I know.

Paul-this anal preoccupation with all kinds of tests is not going to make people live longer as far as I know. Quitting the smoking habit does.
-
Tony those were indeed common on the Mbodies, I still have one somewhere in a drawer.

Still very good, raw straight photography.
Whatever happened to photographer Ata Kando?, she played an important role in his life at that time.

Is that the DR I used to know Bob? If so-nice to see a satisfying relationship! For some reason I couldn't get it in a friendly fit with my MP-how did you manage?

Tri- Me? No unfortunately other commitments (away on holidays elsewhere)but I hope to connect with fellow members on future occasions.

Great to have your work recognized Dennis, bravo!

If it's a static subject I'd meter first. For spontanuous situations I shoot first then check focusing and meter. (In those situations I usually have the M prefocused and the exposure preset, I correct the meter setting if I enter a differently lit area).

Also look at a contemporary frame for your glasses. They can be very flexible so you can move your eye much closer to the viewfinder. (You may want to shave down your eyebrows). I would cover the top of the viewfinder with a small piece of black "darkroom tape",if scratching is a problem. I have plastic lenses with anti scratch coating, no problems.

The copying assignment shot brings back memories! That's done with the Valoy enlarger base board and column: the lamphousing removed, M body with Viso could be attached with an adaptor plate. In my teens I copied artwork with this set-up for my uncle's lectures. Are you still in Canada Len- I'm in Calgary. I enjoyed your shots.

Ikea frame sizes are European (metric), check their catalogue.
As a kid in Holland I used to print 18x24 cm; 30x40 cm and 50x60 cm. Printing paper came in those sizes.

Albert how about a little story in LHSA mag re: From Ia (Leica) to M2A?

Learning the hard way-what's wrong with that? you get what you pay for, customer is king!

3 months ago. 2 negs, the prints hang in my office, look great.
Have to mix Ansco 130 but haven't been able to remove the vacuum seal lids from the 5 gallon pales I keep my chemicals in: sodium carbonate, sulfite and hypo, bought 50 lbs of each last month.
Usually I print about 6.5"x10" on 11x14 paper. Only B&W.

Lester this sounds like fun. I shot my Greece trip in 1959 with a IIIa, Summar 50/2.0. Adox KB17 in Neofin Blau. Used Promicrol with HP4 as well. Still tempted to buy another IIIa but instead will probably look for a good Summar to use on my M4-P, for sentimental reasons! You should consider using a slip-on 5cm bright line viewfinder! Combined with zone-focusing the shooting experience will be more enjoyable I think.
My Dad at 97 still has great pleasure from his M6. So keep on shooting!

Great stuff. Now read "A short walk in the Hindu Kush" by Eric Newby.

That's all I use. Only problem occasionally is the appearance of static discharge when I accidentally wind the film too tight. (too long a film length).

As Ben said Rodinal is great as is Al's D76. With Rodinal you'll lose some speed (with me 2/3 stop)- can be remedied somewhat by adding Na.sulfite. Easier than D76 to self-mix is the D23 spoon formula, with standard kitchen measuring spoons, I've done this now for years.
The metal reels/drums are OK however you cannot stick a thermometer into the tank during development unless you take of the lid. This is the reason I returned to the use of (a bit more hassle to load) Jobo 1236 reels/tanks, just bought another one for 2.99 on ..bay. It's handy to have a few. Anybody wants my Kindermann/nikon reels about 10, mixed 120 and 35 mm.
Can't comment on scanning.
Any ABLON Advice?
