  1. using the Ablon template makes it easier to trim the film end properly to fot into the film spool of the re usable Leica metal film cassettes. You don't need it to trim the leader end, this can be done in day light as described above.
  2. With this field camera you'll have to slide the front standard back, towards the rear standard (assuming use of the short focal length).

As a result the lens and film plane will likely not be parallel: tape a mirror with hole on spare lensboard, place 2nd mirror in filmplane, facing lensboard mirror. Peek through hole @ frontend and align, only then do your composing, focusing etc.

Simple bathroom mirror will do but glass, not plastic. About 1/4" thick (mainly for strength in the field), cut to size of choice, they'll drill hole for you. again about 1/4' diam. 2nd piece about 4x8"

I leave front board/mirror in place at all times, other piece in pack.

  3. Also look at a contemporary frame for your glasses. They can be very flexible so you can move your eye much closer to the viewfinder. (You may want to shave down your eyebrows). I would cover the top of the viewfinder with a small piece of black "darkroom tape",if scratching is a problem. I have plastic lenses with anti scratch coating, no problems.
  4. The copying assignment shot brings back memories! That's done with the Valoy enlarger base board and column: the lamphousing removed, M body with Viso could be attached with an adaptor plate. In my teens I copied artwork with this set-up for my uncle's lectures. Are you still in Canada Len- I'm in Calgary. I enjoyed your shots.
  5. 3 months ago. 2 negs, the prints hang in my office, look great.

Have to mix Ansco 130 but haven't been able to remove the vacuum seal lids from the 5 gallon pales I keep my chemicals in: sodium carbonate, sulfite and hypo, bought 50 lbs of each last month.

Usually I print about 6.5"x10" on 11x14 paper. Only B&W.

  6. Lester this sounds like fun. I shot my Greece trip in 1959 with a IIIa, Summar 50/2.0. Adox KB17 in Neofin Blau. Used Promicrol with HP4 as well. Still tempted to buy another IIIa but instead will probably look for a good Summar to use on my M4-P, for sentimental reasons! You should consider using a slip-on 5cm bright line viewfinder! Combined with zone-focusing the shooting experience will be more enjoyable I think.

My Dad at 97 still has great pleasure from his M6. So keep on shooting!

  7. As Ben said Rodinal is great as is Al's D76. With Rodinal you'll lose some speed (with me 2/3 stop)- can be remedied somewhat by adding Na.sulfite. Easier than D76 to self-mix is the D23 spoon formula, with standard kitchen measuring spoons, I've done this now for years.

The metal reels/drums are OK however you cannot stick a thermometer into the tank during development unless you take of the lid. This is the reason I returned to the use of (a bit more hassle to load) Jobo 1236 reels/tanks, just bought another one for 2.99 on ..bay. It's handy to have a few. Anybody wants my Kindermann/nikon reels about 10, mixed 120 and 35 mm.

    Can't comment on scanning.
