I had a Kirk L bracket for my D200, and it was great - was the same dimensions as the Kirk foot I got for my 70-200, could use either with the same Arca Swiss clamp.
Bought a Kirk L bracket for my D700, and it's a real pain to use - neither of the sides of the L-plate is the same depth as my 70-200 foot, so I am not able to slip my D700 into a half-open Arca clamp like I could before with the D200 l-plate. I'll never buy anything from Kirk again - not at that price!

Perhaps your lens contacts need cleaning, or your lens isn't as firmly attached as you think it is...?

My Kirk L plate for my D200 did not fit my D700 [though suspect the D700 L plate would fit the D200]. Given how poorly my Kirk plate works though I'd just get a generic L plate.

Feel I should point out that despite appearances to the contrary, crazycameras.co.uk is not a UK company but is located in the US of A.

This is what we have to put up with over here - higher prices (partly due to the weak pound) and a mere 1 year guarantee (warranty), even when NOT grey-market!

No, that's not true. You get a one year warranty on *used* goods, two years on *new* goods in the EU.

I have the 24mm PCE and it does not work with my Nikon 1.4 teleconverter.

Have you tried a] restarting your Mac, and b] rebuilding your Aperture library?? I'm assuming you can open your images without any problem with Preview?

I've got a Think Tank Streetwalker Pro, and it won't take all the camera gear you've listed [unless you want to cram things in]. I don't think it's a particularly well designed series of bags either.

There are three pretty active Edinburgh flickr groups I would check - Edinburgh Meetups, Edinburgh Photographers, and Photography Guide to Edinburgh. You can usually find someone up for a wander, and there are usually a number of outings organised during the Festival.

The real problem you will have if you go for the 70-200 is the weakness of the D200's AF system. It's definitely a better lens than the camera you'll be putting it on, in my experience.

Given what everyone's said, if you have a D200 and a pile of DX lenses, what's a better upgrade - getting the D300 [which doesn't seem to be a very compelling upgrade] or the D700 and just shooting in cropped mode? [i know the images from a D700 will be smaller but that's not a deal breaker...]
Sounds to me that the D700 makes more sense, or am I off base?

Used a 4gb Lexar WA 133x CF with my D200 on my last trip - worked really well, and battery
life was much much better than with a 2gb Lexar WA 80x CF.
That being said, the 133x card has since failed and had to be sent back, so am bit leery of
them now.

I think it may be your card, not your camera - when the camera can't read the card, can
anything else read it? [i.e. desktop card reader etc.??]
