Should PN continue to profile itself as a largely old-style. film-based
PN never was film based to begin with. It was created when digital became mainstream . Film interest is addition, as some members interested in it, I still have around 6 film cameras starting with Brownie.
Problem here isn't film or digital, its about what this website can offer to working photographers. If galleries and profiles could offer level of customization.
If I would be working pro, I would want my profile look like personal webpage, with portfolio arranged the way I want, links to my sites, Insta and FB. My potential clients aren't interested in what forum topics I visited recently.
That way paid membership will be justified.

Focus pull usually used in video. I don't think anybody will change aperture during studio shot, once lighting is set, photographer concentrating his attention on the model, not on camera settings.

It's like Eggleston or Herzog, only they used brighter colors, Kodachrome colors, some sunshine would be helpful too:)

"Does film, as a medium, get in the way of shooting?" - yes.
Film just like old classic car, nice, expensive, has some specific charm in it. But when you look at specs, it just can't beat new more powerful, more advanced technology.

Robert Frank, "The Americans" and the reading of photo books

May be, may be not. All those contradictions still here, Cold War mentality on full display, society polarization reaching all time high.
What changed? We got internet and big screen TV's, that's about it, most valuable companies, in market valuations, don't produce anything.
Humanity as whole and "The Americans" in particular, stuck in the same feudal mentality, we got 8 billion people fighting for finite Earth resources.
