Hey guys,
Is it possible to obtain the Ni-Cd pack for the 577g? Will any new Ni-Cd cluster
of the same power work? I've cross-referenced mir.com's 577g spec sheet and I
see that the Alkaline system, though slightly slower, is a very practical power
source. However, you get more flashes with Alkaline. Just wondering...

Thanks Gents!
Sorry about the snide remark. In the past there have been instances where my posts were ignored, and slowly dissipated into the archives.
Abilene was what I was looking for and I found it earlier yesterday before any of your responses. However, I will contact Camera Clinic as well.

I'm glad I found the shop myself.
This is one hell of a forum. I NEVER get answers here.

If I recollect, they offer service in the following three statuses:
Silver
Gold
Platinum
Time for my little A1 to take it's medicine...

Oh, ok. Thanks for the correction.
Regardless, I use it with my film adapter to shoot short films. I don't use it with my Canon bodies.

I don't know if this is news to you guys, but I didn't know Canon produced this
accessory in the past. Lately I've been shooting HD video with a film lens
adapter, allowing me to shoot 24P with my FD lenses. This retains a shallow
depth of field: the elusive film look. Well, for a long time I couldn't control
the stops on my new FD lenses. Until I went to BH with the problem and the clerk
handed me the diaphragm adapter.
I believe it's original intention was to allow FL mounts on FD bodies and vice
versa. Interestingly, you cannot mount an FD lens to an FD body with the adapter
engaged unless you have a designated spacer ring.
Oh well, it's probably of little use for you guys, but for short film making via
lens adapters and HD cams it was the best 5 dollars I've spent in a while. I can
finally stop down an FD lens!

Well,
I was off by 10 years and 3000 miles. However, there was a punk/hardcore scene thriving in DC at the time of that photo.

I forgot to mention that all of the lenses that I mentioned will have both benefits and shortcomings depending on their use and your goals. From color and contrast reproduction, consistency, flare reduction, sharpness, bokeh, etc.
You can yield some sweet imagery from the 1.8 as well, but these other three will harness great results.

Jim,
The part that you seek will be nearly impossible to find by itself. If you plan on shooting with this camera, I wouldn't worry about a few scratches on the barrel. What's important is how the setup performs, cosmetic blemishes are incidental.
If you simply cannot live with it, the 50 1.8 fetches a whopping ten to 15 dollars in mint condition on eBay. Pick one up.
A wiser decision would be to snatch one of the following:
50 1.4
55 1.2 Aspherical
50 1.2 L

John,
I'd say between '83 & '87, DC.

The colors are part of shoot for my Film Lighting (Cinematography) final. For
some reason our instructor wanted us to shoot with an SLR instead of a movie
camera. The object was to utilize what we had learned while using studio
lighting in a controlled environment, but with available, natural light. As I
appreciate the art of cinematography, my goal was to capture moments that could
pass as individual film frames. I'm currently practicing the art of pulling focus.
The b+w's are from a trip to Venice last summer. I was just enjoying the
textures and design of the city.

I just spun the Aperture ring and went through the stops while watching the blades. They move freely and precisely, but that isn't the problem. I can still here something spinning around near the mount. Light and metallic, like a tiny spring or screw. Please keep the comments coming.
Thanks thus far!
-
Robert,
Thanks for the response. Sorry, this is an FD mount. It's old enough...
Do you have any ideas as to what is wrong with it?
-
The diaphragm works flawlessly and the glass and blades are spotless. However,
when I handle the lens in my hand I can hear something loose in the rear of the
lens. From the sound, it might be a small screw or possibly a spring, should I
be worried, can it be repaired at home?
Thanks!

...the FD 55mm 1.2 with blue AL and Gold ring and the 55mm 1.2 simply marked
Aspherical, sans Gold-ring? I've read that the AL housed a radioactive coating
that would brown over time. Is this true? As for the Gold ring, was that just
the precursor to the red-ringed L ? Were the Gold-ringed lenses of the highest
optical grade? Why were they short-lived?
Thanks!

Doug wants a wide angle igoogle theme. Anything else? Keep the comments coming.

...and I know it doesn't belong here, but since it's FD oriented I posted it.
Like my bio says, I'm a graphic designer first, photographer second and since
I'm on an L kick lately, I decided to enhance my igoogle theme. What they offer
is pretty standard. I took the liberty of generalizing in some areas, so all the
sticklers please take it easy on me. Tell me what you think and remember I was
taking a break from senior portfolio and bored.

Alan, you've spiked my interest. What entails an astrophoto conversion? How does a converted lens differ from a stock one?
-
Mark!!! Sorry, this is an entirely different auction but for same price. Sorry for that confusion.
