I see your point. You had a good Nikon dealer! Dust? You can clean it yourself. Digital cam. juvenile illness. As for D200 - no, D80 is the same quality as D200 or Sony A100. Period.
It is obvious that you have not tried the three cameras that you are discussing. There are significant user interface differences as well as speed of the autofocus systems in those three cameras. The autofocus speed as well as the ability to use the metering system with older manual lenses makes the D200 well worth the extra money.

If you want to use the great flexibility and TTL capabilities of the SB800 you will need to use a newer Nikon digital camera.
