I saw a HBO documentary with Timothy Greenfield Sanders "Thinking XXX" I liked the simplicity of this
guy's lighting. ".....It?s my usual lighting?no backlight, just a single giant Elinchrom softbox with two
heads powered with two Profoto 2,400-watt-second packs. Normally we shoot at f/32, but depending on
the bellows factor we might open it up a stop." I called Elinchrom and they said they don't make any
softbox which will take 2 strobe heads. Anyone know how he's doing that and what the advantage is in
having 2 heads? I would suspect there would be more of a hot spot in the center doing it this way.
Also, anyone know what the "bellows factor" is. I think it's when you're for example shooting f16 and you
bring your bellows out 160mm then you need no compensation but if you bring your bellows out to
240mm then you have to overexpose 1stop. Does anyone know for sure? Thanks.

Looking at getting the 53" Elinchrom octodome. They claim it's an "indirect light source" Does this mean
that the flash head points toward the dome like you would with an umbrella?
Thanks

Thanks,
Glad I got this pack. It really offers a lot of control. Til now I've been using a Novatron pack
which worked pretty well for me but I'm happier now with my ProFoto.

I just got the Acute 2R 2400 w/s. Does anyone know what the difference is
between setting it to "A+B" versus "A arrow B" ?

Thanks,
Wow all these model numbers are making my head spin. I probably won't use the Canon I
get for my studio work. I'll have to go to my local pro camera shop and see if they have any
of these in stock so I can see for myself.

I'm not getting rid of any of my equipment. I just landed an account for a sports team and
need a camera with continuous auto focus capabilities. I have a studio and I pretty much
only do portraits so up to now my Hasselblad and my Mamiya do the bulk of my work.

I currently shoot film and also an Imacon back for my Hasselblad. Down side is I need auto focus for some
action shots I need to take. Thinking of getting a Canon but worried I will not get the detail that my
Imacon can give me. Saw some nice photos taken with the various Canons on this website. Any
recommendations on which digital Canon is the most kickass.

Thanks
I found one on B&H photo. Do you think the glass will interfere with the scan due to
refraction etc...

"You will need a glass carrier too though- otherwise sharpness falls off noticeably towards the edges." I picked up the cs 9000. What is a glass carrier and where can I get one? Also included in the items were a few thin black strips that the manual mentions in the items included but doesn't mention what they are for. Anyone know? Thanks.

My prints go from 8x10 to 11x17. I actually got a chance to use the Nikon cs 9000 today and I liked it. The photo shop has 1 left in stock and I think I'll get it. It seems to have a lot of features which makes it somewhat confusing. One feature which if any of you can explain is the one where you choose the number of passes. "sample pass" I think it was called. It gives the option of 1,2,4,8,16.

I guess my hope is to get more resolution for my prints than I'm already getting if that's even
possible.

I shoot midformat film and currently have the Epson 4900 flatbed scanner. Looking at getting an Imacon
343 virtual drum scanner. I didn't get a chance to actually try one first hand yet so I'm wondering if anyone
has one or can give an opinion if it is even worth getting compared to my flatbed. Obviously the Imacon
343 is about $5,000 vs. the $500 I spent on the Epson.

I primarily use my 5 ft. Octodome softbox for my portraits with my ProFoto 2400 w/s strobe. I've always
used the silver reflector inside and wondering if the gold might be better for skin tones. Anyone prefer
the gold over the silver for portraits.

I scan my slide with my flatbed. I was told that slide is better for scanning vs. negatives so I've always avoided negatives. Am I wrong on this?

I'm currently using Kodak 100 EPP slide film with my Mamiya 67 pro II D. It's getting harder for me to buy
on BH photo. I do studio portraits with my ProFoto strobe. Thinking of switching to the Fuji Astia 120
slide. Does anyone know of an ideal slide film that gives good skin tone.

I shoot a Hasselblad 503CW and a Mamiya 67 pro II D. I've seen a video clip of Timothy Greenfield
Sanders shooting a portrait with his large format camera using f22. This seems like a lot of depth of field
and wondering if a higher aperature is good for portraits in general. I typically thought that you shouldn't
exceed f11 on portaits. Anyone know?

I just did a demo with the 39 megapixel h3d. I currently use the 503cw with the v96c imacon back. The
sales rep was telling me that the lens for the h3d body was more capable of handling the increased
resolution vs the Zeis lenses that I have for my 503cw. It would be cheaper for me to just get the 39
megapixel back by itself and get an adapter plate for my 503. I wasn't too impressed with the h3d body
or the lens although it was more convenient not having to be tethered to a battery/hard drive. Does
anyone know if what he's telling me is true?
Thanks
