1.
Hello,
According to www.dxomark.com, various performance indicators (DoXMark Score, Sharpness and Transmission) are always slightly better for each lens when used with the D800E than with the most recent D810 (these indicators are quite higher than those obtainable using the D800).
Does anyone have an idea why?

Thanks for your replies.

  2.
Many thanks to all those who contributed with recommendations, which I got by email Not sure what I did wrong not to have them posted in the forum.
Most people recommended a Nikon 9000 although its numerous problems that I have read in various fora are not encouraging me. I certainly can not afford a new Hasselbald Flextight (I understand that old Imacon and new Flextight scanners are NOT drum scanners, but rather VIRTUAL drum scanners) but possibly a second hand Imacon: Flextight Precision II or other models. Any suggestions?
Thanks

  5.
Hi everyone
I am a serious amateur and shoot mostly BW. I have owned two Nikon Coolscan 4000ED for 6 years and they both recently went bust at the same time: something burnt inside (I believe as a result of problems in my Mac G4 which also had a number of ports gone bust). To repair both of them will cost me around US$ 1000 (in Italy).
I now also shoot medium format and think that the best way to go is not to repair the 4000EDs but go for a much better scanner. I often need to print 40*60 cm for exhibitions, so I am hesitating between a Nikon 9000 or an Imacon (or alternatives). Operating a real drum scunner scares me.
My available budget could be in the order of around US$ 10.000.
Any views/recommendations?
Thanks and regards

  6. Thanks Bob. I am not sure I udnerstand. Pixel density is higher with a full frame sensor. Correct? Consequently an image taken with Canon 5D (which has 12 bit per colour and a full frame sensor) is better - for the purpose of enlargements - thanone taken with a Nikon d300 (wchi has a 14bit per colour but a small sensor). But than I do not understand your example which refers to a full frame sensor with 14bit per color.

    Please elucidate.

    Regards, Olivio

  7. Hello everyone

I would like to be illuminated on whether it is more useful for plotting large

images (110*75 cm) to have an image taken in 42-Bit RGB (14bit per colour) with

a sensor 23.6 x 15.8 mm - OR - an image taken in 12 bit per colour but with a

    full frame sensor.

    Anybody has an informed view?

    Thank you.

    regards

  8. Hallo, I need some advice on the following. I am setting up a studio at home in a room which is about 22

m2. I am thinking of buying three monolights to be used mostly for portraits and glamour. Would 750 W

be enough or should I definitely need 1000W? Thanks to anyone who can assist. Regards, Olivio Argenti

  9. Well, I guess that the nice reactions I got from various people are one more indication that this site is worth following up. I understand that this is a transitional period for the site, so no hard feelings. I look forward to being part of life in this site ... I am off to Azerbaijan for a month now. Regards to all those who have exchanged messages in response to my query.

  10. I have lived in Algiers from 2002 and 2004 and never found a good lab. Used to send films

to Italy for processing. I also been travelling 4 to 5 times a year in Tunisia for the last four

years. Films in Tunisia are outrageously expensive and you only find the consumer types

(BW films are also difficult to find). No professional lab exist in Tunisia. Cant advise about

Morocco, but I presume that the situation there is similar to Tunisia. I strongly

recommend you use X ray bags and ask politely to have your films checked at airports. So

you can take them back to your country and develop them. Regards.

  11. Helllo everyone.

This is the first time I send a message to this forum and the very first time I find a

knowledgeable discussion on scanners. Hope you can assist.

My difficulty is the following: I have about 150 BW images printed as large as 40*60 cm by

a wonderlful trditional printer in Roma into which he has added all his experience and

creativity. I want to scan these prints to put on my web site. Impossible to scan the films (I

have a Nikon Coolscan 4000 ED), as I would be unable to recreate, through PhotoShop, all

the effects and atmosphere he has added.

The advice I am seeking is whether I should purchase a flat bed scanner (Espon V750 -

which scans upt to A4, thus having to scan images in halves and then recompose them -

or other Espon scanners that go up to A3 or others ????) or go straight to a reputable lab

    for drum scanning.

Having seen the images posted above I feel I should go drum scanning (I love the

sharpness and details), but does anyone have experience on flat bed scanning images that

deserve much more than an ordinary result?

    Thank you for your advice.

    Regards

    Olivio
