Ashton,
Although I respect and understand what you mean I think that logic does not apply to photography unless say you want to be strictly a wedding photographer etc. My target audience is anyone who wants me to photograph whatever they like. I'm not trying to fit in a box, nor do I think anyone should including my customers.

UPDATE: In the source code the floating can be disabled. Even with the boarders the image is easily viewed but the floating still happens. So I will adjust the images to fit and disable floating but you will still be able to click image to view full-screen.

Thanks for the input. And yes the lorum ipsum is on the do-to. I can disable that button until I an ready to use it. I want to link it to google maps to show where image was taken.

Thanks Jeff. Although I disagree that the site is complicated to navigate I will agree that the navigation is uncommon compared to what is commonly used by other websites. Which is why I liked it. It floats in the middle of the screen.
I also agree that the scrolling to view images has to be changed. It's particularly annoying for portrait shots. I don't mind when there is a tiny scroll or movement of the image as I like the idea of movement. But where the image is 2 inches off screen I will have to add borders to the image to stop heavy floating.

To Matt and James- beyond the complications on Flash could you please elaborate as thoroughly on my site as you did on the cons of Flash.

NOTE: Sorry about the second post it doesn't allow me to edit my first one! How embarrassing putting the wrong address for my webpage!

Hello!
I have just published to the web my new website showcasing my portfolio! Please visit it and let me know what you think.
The site is fully Flash enabled and has full screen image viewing when you click the selected image! It still needs fine tuning but this is the website.
Thanks!
www.wsquirephotography.com

Billy Squire

Ok,

I bought a Canon 17-55 f2.8 lens and I am playing around with ti to see if I like it. First thing I noticed that when at 17mm and using the built in flash I get a lens shadow at the bottom of the image. If I zoom in a bit the shadow is obviously cropped.
What are my choices? I have a good feeling that 100% of you will say "buy a external flash." But I just dropped $1200 on the lens and don't want to have to fork out $300+ for a flash just yet. Any other options though? Should I just shoot around the problem for now.
Thanks again!

Thanks for the info. Thankfully I never just rest on one opinion and value the opinion of multiple sources hence me asking others for input.

I ordered the lens from Henrey's should be getting it Wed. Bought a $5 hood off the internet because IMO $65 is WAY OVERPRICED for plastic. Im the meantime I will continue to read this thread to see what people say.

Also whats the deal with UV Filters. I mean I can buy them from $10-$100 but is there a real difference?

I posted a thread asking the community about lenses and which one should I get as an upgrade from the kit lens. Thanks for the input and suggestions.
The general suggestion from this community and various other sites etc is that the Canon 17-55 f2.8 is a great lens and only falls slightly short of the L series. Now the only real issue I can find that is stopping me from buying this is the following:
For the price which is considerable high and lacking a hood there are a lot of users complaining about dust and how the lens is like a vacuum for it. But all this info I have found is between 2006-2008. So is this still an issue with this lens, I hope not considering it's been out for a while and still costs over $1000.00. If it is still an issue does the dust cause issues with the quality?

Also where can I purchase hoods other than instores that cost $65++ and filters. Any good sites that have these accessories at cheaper prices. I know I will need a hood as lens flaring is supposed to be bad with this camera.

Thanks again for your time!

Hey another thing,

As a new photographer with DSLRs I am having issue with lowlight shots, so a lens that will nerf it a bit until I develop my technique would be great!

Wow,
That is a lot of geat information. Thanks so much for replying and giving me some great choices. I think I will stay a way from Tamron for now and pony up the $$$ for a great Canon lens. Although I don't want to run into the shop to pick up a new lens I will take my time and do more research based on the above!
Thanks again!

I have a Canon T1i or 500D for the UKers. It came with the kit lens which gets the job done but I want a new lens that will really take advantage of the quality this camera has to offer.
Currently I am looking at the 15-85mm USM IS and wonder what users think about it.
or
What lens do you recommend - considering that I want a well rounded lens, one I don't really have to change.
or
How about Tamron lens, are they any good? Which ones?
Thanks in advance for your help and advice!

@ Tom M
I only compared the above photo to Steve L as Steve posted a negative critique to an image where the OP was only requesting help with the veil issue.

BTW Tom the touch up you did is very nice. And because of this tread I have learned something new in photoshop. So thank you all for the posts, you just made me a better photo editor.

Off topic but your photo is far better than any wedding photo that Steve Levine has uploaded into his portfolio here. Despite the above issue you seek to resolve, it is a very nice photo that very much captures her delicacy and beauty.

ok, so lets say I find files (photos) that are corrupted, is there any way/program to save them?
-
Les,
I did click overwrite only because I thought I was overwriting other information and didnt realize that the photos were named the same. Usually cameras keep a count but mine decided to use the same numbers.

Bob, I copied the files from the camera to the recycling bin then I deleted them from the camera. does that make a difference?
-
also is there a way to restore files to their original self?
-
thank you all I do appreciate all your help. So far most programs cant find the files so I am looking at the recycling bin now to see if I can pull from there.
-
Ok I guess I need to put a little more info.
So I copied the photos from my digital camera to my computer into a file called indy. I went out a took landscape photos and put them into the same folder.
When I went to look at the photos (on my desktop) the thumbnails showed my cat but when I opened up the photo it showed the landscape. when I refreshed the thumbnail it now shows the landscape. is it possible to reverse/recover the original photos?
-
Recently my cat Indy passed away after 14 years. I took a few photos of him just
before he died but there is an issue.
The photos as a thumbnail show the original. But when I click to view/preview
them they come up as a totally different photo!
Does anyone know how to recover the original file?
-
I swear some of the people who rate photos are on crack. One photo has
4originality and the second which is the same theme/topic gets 2.

Thanks Mikael,
There is a lot of photos on the site I agree, I am constantly rearranging and deleting photos as I go along. As you know its hard to choose some over others but I will get there eventually. But I still feel that photography is such a grey field that marketing to a wider audience is not as hard as some would think. Now with that being said I am sure that as I grow as a photographer you will see the site take a more structured look in certain directions. This will probably be because of where the money is coming from.

As for the navigation it is unconventional and that's why I chose it. When I choose the site I wanted to do something that I like and that is what I based it on. Even though people are used to one way I think that it is simple enough and clear enough that people wont have a problem navigating it. Besides if being an artist is being conventional then where is the fun in that. I have been a person who has always stuck to my guns and it has worked so far.
The big background image is something I don't think I will ever do away with. It may seem like a tabloid to some but it's the opening image to the site (that I will change regularly) to try to bring an idea or emotion to the viewer. Does it make it look like a tabloid, maybe to some but I think being photography and having an image blown up works and is my favorite part of my site. Not only does the main content get covered up but it also turns B&W which is also what I like very much. You get the opening image which attempts to (see above) then you move on the experience the rest of what I see and envision.
I know I am asking for peoples opinions and then questioning most of what is said. Thats just who I have been as an artist my whole life, painting, drawing, animation etc. I believe that when you create you have to believe in what you are doing, believe in the core of what it is you create. And if you change the core because someone says it doesn't work you lose yourself as an artist. But when you stand your ground you become confident in your ideas the bigger pichure is never lost to you. To be completely honest I am just looking for the fine tuning remarks here. Like the paning of the images that I fixed. In my own weird way when other photographers tell me they don't like either my work or an aspect of or say nothing at all I know I am in the right direction because I haven't met (seen) a photographer I want to be like, have the style, technique or career of.
