So I am driving through town to a wedding, I'm about 15 blocks away, and WHAM
some guy hits my car. Nothing serious, but definite damage (see photo). After
yelling several explatives to the other driver and his admission that he was
at fault, I started my calls. First to the wedding coordinator, no answer on
her cell. Then to a photog friend just in case I couldn't make it, no answer.
Then the hotel to explain and relay info to everyone (I do a lot of weddings
there, so I know the manager well). Police arrive, car is driveable, take a
few pics just in case, and off I go. I actually get there with plenty of time
to spare.
Now the question. What do I do about my camera(s)? At first I freak out
because of the corners, but I think the hood was unscrewed. Later shots look
fine but how do I know nothing is a little off, I had a VR lens attached and
the camera was on the seat. If I get them checked out, will their insurance
cover the cost?
Just looking for some tips.
BTW, the guy was making a left onto a one way street, realized he was going
the wrong way, and swerved back into traffic.
Thanks for any input.

Thank you Dennis for responding to the ethics issue. It isn't about ethics, it is about receiving a discount that is offered by the company. Kate is not trying to get the discount from a teacher or student friend, she IS a student. She also isn't downloading the program from an illegal source. She also qualifies for discounts from computer hardware vendors such as Dell and Gateway through her college/university. Should she not take advantage of such discounts because she would use the computer to do professional work? No, that would be just as ridiculous.

Why would it matter if you are "currently" a student but use the product professionally? If you legitimately qualify for the discount, save yourself several hundred dollars and use it.

I'm a teacher and the academic version is the exact same thing, except in some cases it does not include all of the manuals. However, I did purchase the CS2 web bundle (with Dreamweaver, Flash, etc) and it came with manuals, I don't know if the full version comes with more or not. You CAN upgrade the software.
Photoshop will work without them no problem, but they all have specific functions that work together with the other programs
InDesign is for printed page layout software for newsletters, magazines, newspapers, flyers, etc.
Illustrator is a drawing program that allows you to create vector art.
GoLive is web design.
Just so you know, most vendors require proof of education credentials to purchase the education versions. School ID, school purchase order, etc.

I use printroom dot com and have been very happy with them. It's very simple to set up and you can put a watermark across images very easily. Another one I signed up for is exposuremanager dot com. This one allows you to make it look like the whole order and print process comes directly from you, customers never know you are using an outside service. The advantage there is that they can not find out our print prices :)
They both use the same lab, apparently in Dallas, TX, so print quality is the same.

I tried the clone tool, but had a hard time getting it right with shadows and brighter spots. Maybe I'll play with it some more.

Are there any good ways to edit a sweat-stained shirt or jacket? I had a nice
photo of a b/g walking down the beach, but I couldn't use it because his
jacket was soaked. I tried selecting the wet spot and adjusting levels,
colors, etc, but nothing seemed to work.
Thanks!

I like Anne's answer, putting it in terms of print costs works without comparing to another industry. I like it.
XP Slideshow software for Wedding Shows, can you HELP?

MovieMaker is definitely a good option, but PhotoStory 3 by Microsoft is a free download (yes a free download from MS) that works well also. It allows you to do the "Ken Burns effect" of panning and zooming across the photos.
Even better is Photoshop Elements, about $100 I think. It gives you a little more control and higher quality output.
