  1. Anne is correct - we've created the album using our own layout and images, and want to double the use as our portfolio as well as an example of an Asuka Book.

I just don't want to use the discount code for my studio sample if any watermarking or text is going to be printed over our images. I'd rather pay full price and know this album is the same as any album I'll order down the road, then save the 50% and get "sample" or other text stamped all over our photos.

  2. SO, I'm ready to order our stuido sample from Asuka. We're also going to use

these as a double for our portfolio. But, I'm wondering if it has "Sample"

stamped all over it, or not?

I'd really like to have an album that is exactly like what the Bride & Groom

will receive - I don't know how my customers would feel if we're trying to use

an album as our portfolio as well, and there's text printed all over the photos.

Can someone who's ordered the studio sample recently let me know if it's

exactly the same as a real album, or something different?

    Thanks in advance!

  3. I've been pregnant the last two years, so I definitely know what you are going through. I shot a wedding last year as an assistant to my husband, and also provided day-of coordination. I was 11 days from my due date. This year, we've been booked for a couple weddings within 8 weeks of my due date.

My advice is to drink plenty of fluids, scope out all nearby bathrooms, have a back up plan, wear comfy clothes and shoes, and find someone to carry heavy gear.

And of course, enjoy your pregnancy! Congrats!

  4. It's happened to my husband as well. While I was doing a few shots the bride had requested of misc. family, the groom's sister-in-law hit on my husband, pulling him on to the dance floor, etc. He had to physically push her off him and let her know that I was in attendance, and was a Marine before she finally backed off! HAHA
  5. My husband and I are looking to (finally) build a website. Given limited time,

knowledge and budget, a template that is customizable would work best for us.

I came across allwebcodesign.com. So far, I like what I've seen, but without

having any references to their services, I'm a little hesitant to invest the

money. Has anyone used or heard of them before? What were your impressions with

customer service, flexibility with customization, etc.?

    Thank you in advance!

  6. Gary -

Obviously I'll be bound by what my doctor says. I am just looking to educate myself as much as possible prior to his return phone call to me, so thank you for your response. He always considers outside information when planning a course of treatment, and information that we provide to one another truly make it a team atmosphere where we both play an educated part in my treatment.

OB's tend to be all over the place when it comes to chemicals. With my first child, my OB at the time (in the Marines) allowed me to color my hair after 20 weeks. With my daughter, that OB refused to allow me to color my hair at all, and with this pregnancy my OB said do what I want as far as hair dyes are concerned because there isn't enough exposure time or research data to prove it unsafe. Sometimes the green light depends on how that OB feels about any chemical and the stage of pregnancy.

I think I'll also contact the professor for the course and see what is recommended, how much work I'll truly be doing in a darkroom, etc.

  7. Thank you to those who've volunteered their real-world experience. I have to decide between two schools and my first choice requires a darkroom course as the first class you take. Since class begins in September, what school I choose depends on whether or not I can participate in the required darkroom class. Pushing my start date back the winter isn't an option, unfortunately.

Frank, this isn't my first child, so I already know to ask my OB first. I'm waiting for his office to return my call, but in the meantime, I was hoping that by posting within this forum, I'd find a few ladies (or their husbands!) who've been through this situation before. But thank you for stating the obvious answer of consulting my doctor first.

  8. My husband and I are exclusively digital photographers, and I've never worked

in a darkroom. I am considering attending an art school that requires using a

darkroom. While I'm happy to set up a home darkroom to use, as well as have the

experience, I'm also almost 6 months pregnant.

Does anyone know about the safety of using darkroom chemicals during pregnancy?

    Thanks so much!

  9. We give a DVD of images to brides, but we have the cost built in to our packages.

We also provide a print credit with every package. It is stated in our contracts that the print credit must be used up before the DVD is made available. We also put a disclaimer in our contracts, and reinforce it in conversations, that once they have the DVD and print images at the local one hour photo stop, they will certainly see a huge difference in quality between the prints from a pro lab and Wally World, etc.

This works well for us, because even with a DVD, once a bride sees the photos we printed and the photos they printed at a local store, they see the difference first hand, and we still get print sales after the DVD is provided.

  10. We attach an itemized "schedule" to our contracts. For things like additional hours or album upgrades, we also note these are upgradeable. If the client decides to upgrade, we have space on the schedule to indicate this. The couple can then just initial changes.

If a client wants to upgrade their entire package, however, we sign a whole new contract and schedule.

  11. Wow Jeffrey. I'm appalled. Apparently you've never heard of the saying "Don't judge a book by it's cover." I'm pretty offended, actually, especially since I loved my dress that I got from David's bridal, and I think my photographer was pretty darned special too.

My studio has worked with several David's brides. In fact, we specialize in the so-called "budget bride." Each wedding was a pleasure to photograph, and we have met the most wonderful people. I guess since we DO photograph brides who can't necessarily afford (or perhaps! CHOOSE) to get a designer gown, we must not be special photographers.....

In response to the original question, I do think the fee to be a David's vendor is a little steep. However, if you book a lot of weddings, and your pricing supports the fee, it would at least get your name out there, and maybe get a few more weddings a year to boot.

  12. I'm looking into my options for wedding albums. Has anyone used DigiLabs for

wedding albums for the bride and groom?

I'm also interested in Asuka, but have a limited knowledge of PS, so designing

these books have taken longer than I expected.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

  13. I haven't posted before, but this question hits really close to home. I am at the beginning of my ninth month. Next Friday, my sister in law is getting married. Not only am I the assistant photographer (my husband, her brother is the primary photographer), but I'm also her wedding coordinator! In fact, I'm being induced on the 16th - just ten days after her wedding!

As long as you're comfortable and realistic with your abilities, your doctor believes you'll be healthy, AND you have a backup that the B&G are comfortable with, I say go for it! Just take care of yourself and be in tune with your body. If, as your pregnancy progresses, you have any doubts whether you'll be up for it, be honest with the B&G and put the assistant in charge of the photography.

    Good luck and congrats!

    Katie
