I sometimes shoot weddings with a D80. The thing I don't like about the D80 when on a wedding is the 11 point AF system, which the D90 also has. The af system of the D300 is far better, and when shooting weddings that's very important! D300 also has good high iso performance, so that would be my choice.

If you do not "need" this lens now, I would wait, for Nikon probably will come up with more FX AFS lenses within a year or so. What is your purpose for this lens for it's a different lens on DX anyway. If you're planning to buy a D700, go for the new 50mm 1.4G. If you plan to stay on DX buy the new 35mm 1.8 DX. regards, Martijn

Great pictures for a wednesday ;)

Just clean the lens contacts, and take the SDcard in and out like ten times, so the contacts will be "clean" again. I`ve had the same problems with my D80 on the day I bought it. I send it to Nikon. They could not find anything wrong. Got it back and it still happend. I then cleaned the lens contacts and the battery contacts and it never happened again.

Anyone tried these lenses? I can't find reviews yet. Don't know if they are already available, but they do sound very interesting. The Tokina costs €530,- and has built-in AF motor drive and the Tamron sells for €399,- also with Built-In-Motor!
Tamron SP AF10-24mm F/3.5-4.5 Di-II LD Aspherical [iF]
Or should I stick to my first choise the Sigma 12-24? I'll be using it for landscape and reportage photography most of the time.

Thanks all. I'll take a look (again :) at the Tokina 11-16 and the Sigma 10-20. Taking no filters with such a peace of front glass is indeed risky. Elliot, which lens do you mean by Nikon's new DX ultrawide lens .

Im thinking of buying this lens for my D80. I have two DX lenses (Tamron 17-50 and Sigma 50-150) but I'm a bit uncertain buying other DX lenses, because we don't know what Nikon comes up with, say in two years, and if it will be FX or DX. This lens seems to give wide angle on DX and will be a good investment for a possible FX camera later on. Anyone who has experience with DX camera and this FX lens? Also, will the difference between 12mm and 17mm will be worth buying such a lens?

"Two women serve in Israel's new Cabinet, but some Israelis would rather not see them.
Newspapers aimed at ultra-Orthodox Jewish readers tampered with the inaugural photograph of the Cabinet, erasing ministers Limor Livnat and Sofa Landver.
Ultra-Orthodox newspapers consider it immodest to print images of women.
The daily Yated Neeman digitally changed the photo, moving two male ministers into the places formerly occupied by the women.
The weekly Shaa Tova simply blacked the women out, in a photo reprinted Friday by the mainstream daily Maariv.
Other Israeli papers reprinted the altered images next to the original photos, with one headlining it "Find the lady," according to the British Broadcasting Corp.
No response was available from officials at the two newspapers.
During the election, campaign posters featuring female candidate Tzipi Livni were defaced near ultra-Orthodox neighborhoods."

Real shame!

D300 vs D700
in Nikon

You can compare image quality here:
http://www.imaging-resource.com/IMCOMP/COMPS01.HTM
I found the differences in these tests not too big, especially if you do not blow up photo's larger than 40x60cm.
aren't the low light abilities of the D700 a bit overrated?
