Hi again Paul
Thanks for your explanation.
Now I understand some reasons for choosing this conversion and I also appreciate your calm way of accepting critiques. Some people get really steamed up when receiving rates that are lower than usual :)
I also like to play a bit with different conversion methods, but it's more about toning the B/W photo than mixing it up with colour.
This example in particular is probably not my cup of tea, but I really like the composition :)
Why don't you try some splitt-toning here ?
It could be a killer shot :)
This one or my favourite from yours -> http://photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=7008396
Anyway - keep your photos coming.
Cheers

Hello Paul
I must say I don't quite share other peoples' delight here
Let's however start with some good points :)
First of all - really nice perspective
Simple but effective composition and very nice light captured on those rocks.
Now - the bad part :
I think you've exaggerated with post-processing here quite heavily. I don't mean general exposure (it's spot on) but something is wrong with the colours reproduction here. The sky looks really weird (I have never seen such a strange tones in my life). Second thing is water - it has also lost it's natural blue hue and looks more like crude oil.
I'm not sure if that's intensional or not, but I simply don't like the final result.
Cheers, Piotr

Turnberry Lighthouse marks a dangerous part of the Ayrshire coast,
off which lies Bristo Rock which was responsible for many wrecks.
The Lighthouse was designed by Engineers David and Thomas Stevenson.
They examined the rock and reported on 18 May 1869 that it was
inadvisable to erect a lighthouse on the rock itself, but suggested
that the best place would be on Turnberry Point, where it now
stands. It is situated close to the 9th hole of Turnberry Golf
Course in what was once the moat of Turnberry Castle, which disputes
with Lochmaben the honour of being the birthplace of Robert Bruce
(1274 -1329). Please have a look at a larger version. Your

Hi Peter
Great shot to start your PN gallery.
Very hadr weather conditions - but this is what I like the most.
Very nice composition too - everything is very well balanced and that piece of foreground gives a better scale understanding. I'm glad you've uploaded a reasonably large version.
Beautiful !!!
Keeep your photos coming.

What a beautiful reflection !!
Amazing place. I really like this one.
The only thing I don't quite like are these small branches in the lower part.
A small crop from the bottom could help here, I guess.
Beside that - lovely scene.

Kurt - when it comes to the coastal shots and proper filtration - it's quite tricky. As you can see the Sun is just a little bit over the horizon - and this is also the line where you usually place your GND filter transition line. Unfortunatelly with a regular hard-edged GND filters the transition in the middle is the weakest, so in most cases it won't be enough to capture the whole scene properly without burning out some highlights details. One (cheap) solution is to simply move the filter placement a bit lower (and then recover some details that are too dark because of that).
You may be also interested in Reverse GND filters (manufactured by Singh-Ray). They are especially good for sunset/sunrise shots when the Sun is just over the horizon.
Too bad they are so expensive :(

You're lucky to be living in US. I can't find them in UK at all :/ Looks like there is no other retailer outside States.
Very nice scene but be careful of the sea spray. It can ruin your pictures quite easily.
Cheers

Hello again Kurt
Nice to see such a great improvement in your work quality.
This one looks really great. From the compositional point of view it is very well balanced. I however would probably crop some sky part - to put more emphasis on the foreground. The overall exposure is spot on - but you may play a bit with curves/levels adjustment to make an even stronger impact.
Beside that - very nice coastal shot. Keep your work coming !

Namierzony :)
Fajne kontrasty a i miejsce niczego sobie.
Lubie takie niebo - dobrze wydobyta dramaturgia.

Very nice composition and interesting colours.
The overall contrast looks a bit flat to me - but I guess it may be due to the weather conditions or some sea spray on the filters.
Nice placement of all compositional elements within the frame and your shutter speed suits here really well either.
The whole image looks a bit oversharped (see tha halos around the sharp edges). I would probably mask them out.
Beside that - very nice coastal shot

Hello Tammy
:)
Thanks for your comment. I'm glad you like my photos.
Hope that my new gear will be as good as the old one and I won't regret changing it :) Talking about EF-S 10-22mm - it's a great lens for APS-C cameras. No vignetting whatsoever and corner-corner sharpness is fantastic at f/10 (especially at 10mm setting). When fully stopped down to about f/22 it's a bit soft, but I would say that's the general issue with most lenses.
To answer your screensaver question.
There is no CD/DVD available at the moment (need to think about such thing). I am still working on my proper wesite at the moment - as the PN gallery is just a temporary solution.
There is however a short (7mins) presentation of my shots available to download - which may be interesting for you (let me know if you like it).
Just visit my friend's website :

Very nice shot Kah
Would love to see that larger as ~700px is nothing but a thumbnail :(
I love that milky effect on the water.
Good choice with long exposure.
The overall sharpness and clarity is outstanding. (any special approach used here ??)
Any significant quality improvement over 5D ? (I'm only interested in image quality).

Hello Richard
Thanks for your comment.
You're right - this photo was final round selection in the Take a View 2007 Landscape Photography Competition. It was also printed in a book published by the AA.

Hello Kah
Very nice coastal shot.
Simple, but effective composition.
Nice to see you didn't exaggerate with color saturation like many folks on this site do.
Tha barrel distortion of horizon is quite annoying (for me at least). It's very easy to correct such issue in PS or using software like DXO or PTLens.
Beside that - nice shot.

Very nice image Zack.
I like compositions with strong foreground interest like this one.
I remember the previous version and it looks way better without that distortions.
For me the saturation and contrast are a bit over the top here.
I know it's more efffective but a little bit unreal to be honest.
Anyway - pleasure to see.

Hi again Kurt
HDR is a nice method but can be very tricky to tune it properly.
You have to take the bracketed sequence really fast if you don't to have any ghosting effect on moving subjects.
Solid tripod is essential.
Here, for example, the sky part looks quite bad - which is due to the moving coulds.
Next thing you should be aware of are chromatic abberations, which are very likely to be pronounced with this method (see that rock in the top-middle of your photo).
In some cases it's better to do some manual blending - as the results are usually much more natural. It's however more demanding in terms of precision but all in all it's another method to choose.
Don't get discouraged. It takes some time to actually 'feel it' right.
Cheers
Piotr

Hello Brian
Lovely scene with a very strong foreground - just the way I like it.
Nicely composed with everything in place and very well balanced.
Your frame is a bit too heavy to me, but it's probably a matter of taste and generaly not a big deal to worry about :)
Very nice photo anyway.
Cheers, Piotr
