NUMBER 7!

Same experience... I used to be in a couple of photo clubs, but I was the only one with a Pentax, while everyone else was carrying either a Nikon or Canon.
My question is... Pentax was the first bayonet mount, the first TTL metering, the first (fill in blank), yet there is such a low opinion of them.
Give me a Pentax, Nikon and Canon, exact same subject, lighting, shutter speed, etc. and it would hard, if not impossible, so see a difference. So why the bad rap?

  3.
Duane;
Thank you for your input; I tried on another photo and it looks much better,

Don

  4.
Duane;
I agree: too much grain to get a clear definition, I am using the lowest grade settings I can. The originals are JPEG, 7MB, and 4928 x 3264. I added a text layer then saved for web. The final image is 11Kb 600x 397. Believe me, the original images are tack sharp, shot with my K5, a Sigma 70-300 lens (which has given me great images in the past).

Don
P.S. Any suggestions on better renditions are appreciated.

  14.
Douglas;
A great start, especially the first one. Now a few of my own:

  15.
To all K5 owners;
I was reading through my instruction manual and on page 133 it implies that a matte screen should appear when the camera is set to manual focus. I tried this but no screen appears, either with my old manual focus lenses or even my DA*. (The "in focus" indicator light does work, but not as well as the autofocus of the camera: I have not tries the pre-focus option yet.)
Is it a fault in my camera or am I misunderstanding the manual? I often used the matte screen in my old ME Super but have neglected the option since switching to autofocus. I am planning on taking my camera to a repair shop for a thorough cleaning and "tune-up", so if this is an issue I can get it repaired as well.
This is just a K5, NOT a K5ii or iis.
Thanks for your input.
Don

  17.
Again...

  18.
Hin Man;
I understand your love of your "Taks". I own a 300mm f4.0 which I used in my film days, and, looking back through my old photos, always gave me excellent results. Alas, those days are gone. Due to poor eyesight and the inability to find one decent optometrist or lab for a proper prescription.
It has worked well one my digital cameras, but never as nicely as on my old ME Super. I included a few here. All were shot with a ME Super on Kodachrome 64, although I have no record of the shutter speed or f-stop.

  19.
Honestly, I could not justify purchasing ANY medium format unless I was selling my pictures professionally, although I do know of a used 645N with a 45-80mm lens for $895. Shooting film was a joy, and I would have no trouble returning to it.
