It's hard to be confident on stuff like this, isn't it? Much of the time, though, fact follows belief and simply pretending you are results in the confidence. Your images are so carefully defined!
I did read your article (thanks) and I'm still curious about a ballpark amount of time that you end up spending the bulb around. I undnerstand setting the shutter to bulb setting - just want to know how long you tend to leave it open for, as a starting point for my own exploration.
-
Apparently I can't add an image if I edit my comment! Here it is.

Fantastic stuff and a very skilled application of the painting technique. Thank you for sharing. I too was confused by the Somalia reference, but de gustibus non disputandum. I do have to agree about the bright spot - I don't find it 'intriguing and mysterious'! Here's a version of it burned in.
One thing I noticed is that many or most of your titles end with ellipses "...". It seems overused to me, as though you yourself are uncertain of the title, and I think it detracts. Ellipses are overused today anyway.
For how long do you usually paint a given subject? Do you have any suggestions about how to correlate time with the meter's time reading?

The lighting angle on the model isn't quite right. Nice job on the shadow; it looks nice and diffuse, but she's just too bright and the sun should be further to the right.

Industrial still life. In an abandoned nike missile radar base in
the hills outside Santa Cruz.

I think the colors will contrast better if the image as a whole is shifted away from blue a bit. The grass is a bit blue-green.

Taken at Burning Man 2001.

I've had suggestions to mask out the moon in this photo. What
do you think? A version of it w/out the moon is in my gallery.
-
Great shot, but it would love to be less washed out in the upper right. Perhaps something you could do in printing.
-
Thanks much. I expected the moon to look good, but I'd forgotten just how little time is a long time in terms of moon motion. I tried masking it out (see below) and you're right, it looks much better! Thanks a million - this is why I love photo.net

The whole thing, really, Go nuts. Is the color good, composition,
etc. In general, "what do you think?"
-
Beautiful shot and I especially love the composition, but my second thought was 'looks like all he had to shoot with was Kodak Gold'. It seems oversaturated.
Brilliant composition. Thanks for sharing.

Nice! The color cast is a bit heavy. Good that there was something in the foreground. Looks great.
-
Nice color. I'd consider changing the crop, though, as the proportions are far enough from the usual to be distracting.
-
Color is fantastic, composition is great. Creative angle, nice lens flare. Wish I could suggest something to improve. Thank you!
-
Excellent exposure; congrats. I'd say framing it a bit closer/tighter would help, but you've clearly got the timing down and that is most significant. Good shot.
-
Cropping suggestions welcome; I plan on taking some off the bottom to make a 10x14 or so.
And - the rose was there ahead of time. I removed a few dead leaves. "Based on a true story."
-
Just a shot I liked and would like suggestions on. Color balance,
composition in particular. I got a couple of ratings but no
commentary, which left me unable to decide what to improve!
-
Beautiful color, nice form. The only thing that occured to me was that the topmost antler is almost in focus; perhaps either a greater DOF or, alternatively, focusing further down and losing more focus on the top antler would have been better? Beautiful.

Look at the poetry you've inspired in the photo.net crowd! I agree; great print. The vignette _might_ be a little close, but then my contacts are fuzzy today, so I could be mistaken. I do wish, though, that the copyright badge wasn't so visible; it interferes with the photo as art. Philip's logic on same is worth reading (search for 'copyright'), even though it may not work for all. Thanks for sharing.
