  1. I see there is a very small slot in the top plate behind the shutter dial,

about 1/8 inch long by 1/32 wide, if flash ring is put on 1 it is hidden by

the indicator prongs. It is symmetrical not a hole punched in or anything like

that, i have several 3 f leicas both bd and rd, but none has this slot. This

camera is a III c post war converted to IIIf bd. Any ideas on this?

  2. Interesting replies from all, and thank you, one more thing i cant figure out is beside the shutter dial almost hidden totally by the flash adjustment ring is an oblong slot about an eighth of an inch long, it is symmetrical , not caused by something pentetrating the top plate, any info on this? i have several leicas both bd and rd and none show this slot.
  3. Have IIIc in 470000 range , leica serial info says it s a IIIc, butif it is,

it has been converted to IIIf , large shutter speed dial, flash numbers, film

reminder in winding knob, and self timer, all not unusual, but this one has

the engraving dbp and gmbh on the top plate, also the flash numbers are

engraved right on the camera, not on a plate screwed down with 2 screws as has

been the case on every converted IIIc i have ever seen. If the entire top

plate was replaced at leitz would they have engraved the old serial? Any info

    appreciated, thanks, Mike G

  4. i notice on my 111c nr 393648 that above the rewind lever on the "step" there

is and i or l engraved. is there any signifigance to this? Upon examining what

literature i have i notice all the military ones including the black finished,

have this mark. Also the number 280 is written inside the camera on the

bottom. The vulcanite has shrunk a little from the tops and bottom of the

body, is this indicative of an old replacement? is is very brittle as well.

  5. Ive seen an ad in the British press offering to buy leicas and contax cameras

from civilians during ww 2 , support the war effort. It was a private company

that guaranteed that they would be given to the war dept. Does anyone know if

these cameras were marked by the war dept in any way? Like numbers, letters,

    broad arrows? Thanks, Mike G
