  1. Bought it, hated it, got rid of it for a 24-70L. Now I'm happy. Problems were, I couldnt get a good "sharp" copy, not nearly "to me" as good of build as any of my L's, and the focus ring is right in the way when I hold it. On my L's the focus ring is in a differnt place.
  2. 40D is a fine camera but getting very wide on a crop sensor is tough. All focal lengths will be multiplied by 1.6 so a 50mm acts like a 80mm on a full frame camera. 100mm = 160, 300=480... Crop sensor cameras are great for telephoto but unless you down to around 10-15mm they don?t go very wide. Canon does make a really good 10-22 that you could get to compliment something like the 28-135 kit lens on the 40D. That would be one hell of a starter kit and last you a long times worth of learning "reintroduction". Plenty more responses and points of view to come I'm sure.

    Good luck

  3. We keep trying to tell you people that anyone who knows when the new 5D mkII will be out cant say here and just buy the most expensive lens you can afford. Oh wait, this isn't those questions again. Thanks for the fresh one.

I don't use a neck strap but opt for a hand strap instead. The type that Hyun has above is popular, but for some "me" I couldn't get used to it so I use a heavy duty wrist strap that is more of a point-n-shoot style on steroids. For me it is a little bit freer and more flexible. Just another possible option.

  4. accelerated aging tests are fine and all but it's not much good if you cant get the thing to print after a month of none use. I struggled with Epson(s) and the long standing print head clogging issue for a long time before I gave up and switched to Canon. haven't had any of those issues with my old i9900 or newer Pro9000. I do know that the Pro9500 has a much longer archival time though. On the i9900 those prints did fade when left out "not under glass" in my office. Usually took a year or so and being behind glass would have made it considerably better but I notice the prints from my Pro9000 are MUCH better when treated the same way. It is different ink though in the new printer.
  5. Dont discount Zoombrowser. It's good software and I use it all the time for different reasons. Of course I have Lightroom and Photoshop but I still turn to zoombrowser for some things. It has some unique features that make it faster to me for file manipulation and the downloader works flawlessly with a card reader.
  6. It was on the one I had for a short time before I sent it back to B&H. Mine was also a bad copy for IQ but the build quality was no where near what it is on my L's. I was very disappointed in that lens, much happier with my new 24-70L! Some say the 17-55 is only not an L because it is not for full frame, I say that?s just not true. It's not an L because it's NOT and L!
  7. I have this lens and it is wonderful! Dont go through e-bay, the few bucks you save will NOT be a bargain when you have a problem with it. Go to your local shop or one of the REPUTABLE on line retailers or you will inevitably be sorry in the end.
  8. JDM, Thank goodness the vowel epidemic has not hit Long Beach, California, USA as of yet. We do have a stockpile of them and if there is anything we can do to help our friends in southeastern Europe it is to send the much needed supplies immediately. There must be others around the world who have some vowels laying around that they can spare. I know they are still for sale at the wheel of fortune show here in the states.
  9. Don?t bother trying to shoot that Tamron anything less than 4.0 if you value sharpness. I have a great copy of it "after going through three bad copies" and still cant use it below 4.0 Colors and contrast don?t compare to my 24-10L or 24-70L either. Now that I have the L's I haven?t shoot with the Tammy since.
  10. "Quite a few pros have switched to the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 lens having given up trying to get consistently sharp images with their Canon 24-70m f2.8 lenses."

Oh yea, all the pros are turning in their 24-70L's for 28-75 Tamrons! What a stupid comment!

Dan, looks a little soft to me and obviously you have put a lot of work into this. Send it to Canon for calibration with some of your test shots and when you get it back it will be one of your best lenses. Take it out but don't forget to feed it. They like to eat Tamrons!

    Good luck.
