  1. the 50D only shows "shots possible" on the window and INFO screen

this I don't need to know after 150 shots

how to I get it to show "shots remaining"?

I've searched every page of the manual and info screens

    I missed it somehow

  2. excellent answers. photography and printing has always been about getting ' the right light '. perfect lighting makes the average lens a great lens. and a great lens, unreal.

many photogs spend serious time and money finding the right combination. this kind of vibrancy was possible long before photoshop. yes, with film !

photoshop helps tremendously, if you don't overkill. add small amounts of contrast, brightness and saturation.

  3. I was taking some pic's at the Fiesta Bowl parade.

I turned the xti sideways for a vertical shot and saw the image shift slightly

    in the viewfinder.

    then nothing.

the screen went blank, and now nothing works.

    camera won't even turn on.

    anyone ever experience this?

( I have a battery pack with 2 Canon batterys in it, which I removed and tried

    each battery separately, nothing)

I bought the xti new, 10 months ago.

many thanks for your time and comments

    happy new year :)

  4. Man Ray didn't even spot his prints. Does that make him a purist?

Would a purist use a light meter, or a tripod, or only a tripod?

Many baseball purists are against the DH, but it's ok to use a batting helmet.

A purist is where you draw the line, so I can be more pure than you.

  5. The light a picture was taken under greatly affects the final grain. Obviously, taking a candlelight pic you'd expect a bit more grain, but full sunshine is not grainless. It's somewhere in between, and each film/combo is different. Quality of light is everything.
  6. Reticulation, there should be a few articles on it somewhere. I know it was covered in the Time/Life books. This was a huge mistake, that turned out great :) But basically it's caused by a dramatic change in chemical temperatures. As in 72 degree developer to very cold stop bath. This was tri-x pushed to 1600. It is near impossible to achieve consistant results, as least for me.<div>00LxYu-37585084.jpg.7fac7b697e117f61f2c10d3b46ebbb9f.jpg</div>
  7. Does beauty exist without obeservation? Yes. We discover beauty, it doesn't find us. There is more beauty overlooked than ever found or realized, it surrounds us at all times. The light spectrum we see is miniscule to what exists. It is not for humans to limit reality to our senses. The question you asked is not a scientific question. It is a spiritual question, and it has a etheral answer.
  8. I'll throw in a twist. I begin with B+W and then hand-color. But first, it begins life as a B+W. We see alot more color these days, as opposed to 20 years ago, since digital color is so easy to achieve, and it looks superb. In the past color printing was expensive, relatively, and the chemicals were dangerous ( most, not all ). When you loaded the B+W film, you immediately began "thinking" in B+W. Composition, light, contrast, and mostly -tonal range- become important priorities. Tonal range is the key, its not something many photographers worry about with color first thinking, although it's subliminal. The equal trade off is depth of color, saturation, which is not a concern in B+W, and not the same thinking or seeing as tonal range. Digital is a new 500 pound gorilla in this discussion, very few photographers will turn off color capture and record only in B+W on digital cards, why would you. This allows a nice challenge to see and think in color and B+W at the same time, since you can decide later, the end result.
  9. "Few things fo deeper than fashion" (quote from Vogue Magaine)

On the surface, fashion photography may appear superficial and glossy. One could say the same about nudes, portraits and even still-life. In reality, fashion photography is extremely difficult to do well. Enough so that most photographers, like me, run away and find other venues. Impact, in photography, is in every genre, especially fashion. If (any) picture you take can get the attention of thousands, if not millions, and get them to open their wallets, has not a vision in a photograph made a difference?

  10. The mind never ages. But if the spirit ever gives up, and you lose hope, you begin to die.

You can saw "eureka and I got it" a million times; it's just a milestone, because there is always more. Scientists have been trying to understand the universe since day one, the more they learn, the less they know. Currently, they are just making stuff up to get grant money.

  11. "My favorite photograph is the next one"

The beauty of looking through a viewfinder is it is self-motivating. The art of seeing is its own inspiration. Walking around anywhere, at anytime, noticing the light, framing pictures in your mind, seeing the shadows and depth, inspires.

Looking at other people photo works greatly inspires (photo.net is a blessing).

"innocence" is a word and a theme that will forever inspire me.

  12. Neither is better, so to speak. To say photography is more objective is completely personal. None of us see the same colors, tones or notice different aspects of light or composition. Take a picture of someone where you concerned over the technical aspects of the print- show it to the subject, they don't see what you see at all.

Let a literal minded person read a book, vs a more liberal minded, and they don't read the same words or are affected the same way, conscious or sub-conscious.

  13. No, the average snapshot does not look like you. Bad photography from plastic lenses is not me, please don't let it be me :) I've been taking pictures of people for 35 years, they certainly don't see themselves the way I do. It is my honor to show them how beautiful they truely are.

You math is all wrong. All people are born beautiful, and then bad thought patterns take their toll. [This does not apply to NY Yankee fans]

  14. Excellent question Dan. Many artists are "born different". Causing the appearance of emotional distress in a stoic world. A life of passion is a blessing, however difficult, it is a life worth living to its fullest.

Artists are a different breed, not better than any other, just different. Not everyone sees the same color blue. Not everyone sees the same sunset, or hears the same music, or notices the nuances of an expressive eye. To not ignore this, with a passion, is art.
