Can't get into this picture-- it reminds me of a snap shot from flickr. the focus is soft and off. The colors are muddy, the lighting is harsh.

This shot grabbed me and I had to see it. I like it a lot, but feel the specular highlights are too sharp (especially the ones on the glass) and that the warm lights are too hot on the cork. The glass is positioned to be the hero, but the lighting draws more attention to the accompaning grapes on the side and the cork.
In contrast, I think some light is missing from the grapes in the glass, which tells it was lit from a low source, which doesn't mimic natural light.

I did a photoshoot w/ a cosplayer-- they create costumes for comic
and anime characters to wear to conventions. I found this
interesting. This came from a Harley Quinn set, who is the Joker's g/
f in the Batman comics. Comments, advice, critiques all welcomed and
appreciated.

The baby in the hands pictures, I like to see the babies face. I think it's important for a portrait to be able to look back after the child is grown and see his eyes the way they were as a baby.
Currently, the center of interest is in the dad's fingers, which seems to miss the point, IMHO.

Love the idea, but I think I'd personally like it w/ more DOF. A tighter f-stop would make me happy. Also, there's spots that are blown out near the hands and head that look like they shouldn't be. I'm guessing the idea was to lose detail to keep it doll like, and center the attention on the flower. Maybe a little to heavy handed for me.

Love the feel, but I think I'd like it a little bit tighter. I find the area above the door distracting.

Thanks, the shoes are canon for the Emma Frost character, and was outside my control. Perhaps if the cape laid differently instead, the shoes would fit more?

A recent picture from a cos-play shoot. C&C appreciated.

I'd flag off the metal so that the room isn't reflected. Also, the crop makes it feel odd when viewed on the white background here on photo.net. Lastly, the highlights on teh grip are blown out.

Great looking model, and nice outfit. The lighting has clipped the highlights and blown them out. Also, the torso looks like it's overexposed, and the skin tones are under saturated as a result. The shadow across the stomach is a distraction.
Shooting white on white is a challenge, and I think a softer light on the model would have allowed for more tones in the white jacket and allowed it to look more three dimensional.

Peter, the res is set to 533x800 to match a 4x6 crop and at a small enough size that I can post to forums w/o complaint.
The levels are like that b/c it's a digitally aged picture. As a picture age, the flesh tones discolor, and the contrast decreases. The image you posted pops too much to be something you'd find in your grandfathers foot locker.
The whole idea was to create a noir image from the Betty Page era. The tears in the paper and the vignetting was on purpose to add to the raw image taken for the cheap pulp mags producing those "sleazy" pictures back then.

It's a very nice picture. I think the flesh tones suffer a little too much from the processing, and the lighting seems a little flat. To me this picture is very text book, w/ nothing really wrong, but nothing very dynamic either. The subject doesn't seem to contect to the camera, but appears posed for a shoot.

This is a stunning photo. The one thing that keeps it from being a 7 for me, is that the male is much stronger in the photo, but is still positioned as a foil. The femals pose is a little awkward: both her feet, but especially the arm which drags the energy down and out the bottom of the frame. From a techincally stand point, the lighting, placement, and other camera work is amazing.

Reflexions in the water.(Prefer Larger)
in Portrait
Posted
I hate to be the wet blanket at a party, but while I don't dislike it, I'm not as enamoured w/ it as others seem to be. I find few photographs actually "original", b/c so many people have been doing them for so long. I see reflection self portraits all the time on flickr, this one was executed better by having another camera on tripod to give us a different perspective.
The reflection looks nice, but the other part seems really oversaturated and overexposed. The focus seems off too. There's a large, red distraction reflecting in the water. I also would have like the camera to not have hid the face-- I know that goes against what you planned, but this way I'm drawn to the watch more than the person.
