This photograph was cropped, flipped and framed. There were no other adjustments. Thank you all for your comments. I find your vision and suggestions intriguing and helpful.

Nikon 75-300 Velvia, tripod. F100. Other than unsharp mask this one

is un-touched. I shot this intentionally as a silhouette (1)because

of the situation, late on a very cold, very overcast winter day, (2)

because of the mood of the animal. By the way, the cat really is

    black. Including his whiskers.

Thank you in advance for your comments.

    Face2Face

I shot this photograph after about two hours of observation. Mother

and daughter were very playful that particular day. The infant is now

a resident of California and Mom is raising a new off-spring who I

    have yet to record.

    I would appreciate constructive criticism.

Thanks in advance for your time.

Beautiful, haunting and intriguing. She appears to want to finish something said. I love the photograph.

I would dearly love to have the details on its process. Might you share?

    Thank you.

  1. I am drawn to this photograph initially because of the raw intensity it captures. Having grabbed my interest I dwell on the elements and decide that the exposure, tonality, grain, and soft focus all ad to the effect. No doubt we might increase sharpness, moderate exposure and shift the composition. But would that make a better photograph.... or would it not simply create a different photograph?

Congratulations on the POW. Wonderful work.

Congratulations on having a photograph selected as POW. Richly deserved. Wonderful light, tack sharp focus and perfect exposure. And the composition, smart waiting until that particular match, adds balance..... I must agree with the comment above in having the imagination and the talent to show the magnificence of simple things.
  2. Thank you Daniel, "Almost a little TOO clean for my tastes." That's it!

Please don't get me wrong, your work is some of the best on this site. Your skill and vision are obvious and this shot is proof.....but this, it's just "TOO clean." :-)
