1.
Lightroom 4.4 and I have not used LR for import for almost a year - so I'm rusty. It's possible I never used 4.4 since upgrading from 3.6

I imported about 100 images from my camera, but specified the wrong import location. I then use LR to "erase/forget" the new images and deleted then outside LR. When I import again, the raw files .RAF get renamed correctly, but the jpg do not get renamed [and LR gave a warning message on each of these files]. In addition, there is no image showing in LR, just grey frames. The first import had images, and the jpgs open outside of LR with a good image showing. I can add keywords to these images, but i don't know how, cause there is no XMP file.

I formatted the camera, took a new pic and it imports and renames correctly, with an image, and an XMP file when I add a keyword.

 2.
I'm going to be in Manhattan for 4 days fairly soon. I'll be doing street and architecture shots.
I need to choose between a Fujifilm X100 or a Lumix G7 Mirrorless. The Fuji I've used quite a bit, the Lumix I'm still learning [just got a deal on an open box], but I'm liking its movable viewfinder.
Is there enough reason to choose the Lumix over the X100 - to spend time pushing myself to learn the Lumix.

 3.
The chance of the CD provided with any hardware being up to date is rather remote. In most cases, once you install the CD software and start it, then you would get prompted to download and install an update. To expect to get an up to date CD include with a refurbished item is unreasonable.
I'm a software developer - so I may be biased

 4.
I never have had to deal with this - but I will be in NY for several days. I might have access to a hotel computer and would be able to upload my pictures somewhere, but how do I do that - I assume a place like Flicr wont work - I normally shoot in RAW+JPEG. If I don't have a computer and don't want to buy more SD cards- do larger photo store like BH photo have a walk in service to do that?

 5.
First - I never travel - so I'm lost - but I'm going to New York for several days in a few weeks walking around downtown and wanting to get photos mostly of buildings and bridges. Right now I'm planning on taking my X100, and not my bigger Nikon DLSR.

Normally if I'm outside taking pics, I have a backpack with all my kit and water bottles and maps, but I want to travel light and not attract attention that I have a camera. I'm not sure how to deal with that- do I keep the camera in a pocket? How do I carry map, water bottle, and maybe some guide books.

So far I'm thinking of a Lowpro passport sling - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=Lowepro+passport+sling&N=0&InitialSearch=yes, but I welcome suggestions.

 6.
Its getting there slowly, it forced me to change the yellow cartridge, then another and another, each time I change one another gets low. After 2 photo prints and some cleaning cycles, the quality is much better and even - thats good.
Whats bad is that already it shows yellow only 90% full and yellow still does not print anywhere, no yellow and green prints as blue. The nozzle test shows no yellow also, the others are pretty good, a few dropouts.
Also one photo printed with 3 large drops of magenta ink splattered onto it

 7.
I have a Epson R2400 that has not been used for at least a year. I reinstalled drivers, ran a head clean and printed some photos.
I'm getting pretty full looking coverage, but color shifts depending on the photo. One photo looked 90% ok, but some colored spotting on a background that should be grey. Another has a bright yellow toy, that prints as bright pink.
Ink levels are 40% but after several prints, I got low ink level warning on yellow. I pulled the yellow and it has a nice pool of liquid yellow so its not dried up.
The main thing that worries me is that the nozzle clean test print shows only 4 colours as though the left 4 cartridges are working and the right 4 are not. That may be an electronics issue, otherwise I would try various Windex and Vodka solutions to clean the nozzle & tubes

 8.
Sounds good, the 35mm is 200 or 400, the medium format is 160
I have an Epson 4990 Scanner and had tried in the past to scan existing negatives, the strip holder wasnot great at handling the curl so I gave up and had a lab scan them.
I bought an improved adapter from BetterScanning.com http://www.betterscanning.com/scanning/models/4490.html - but by the time I got it, I had moved away from film, so maybe I will try it again.

 9.
I got out of shooting film a few years ago, and was considering doing it again, since I have around 30 film cameras which I miss using. I dont develop my own film - but send it to a lab.
I have around 40 or 50 rolls of color 35mm and medium format film (negative not slide) sitting it a cabinet. It has not been kept cool. Kodak/Fuji/Agfa/Ilford. Most was purchased in 2006
Should it all be dumped? What are the risks of developing it?

 10.
Ok guys thanks - I went out tonight and bought the book - that should keep me busy reading for an hour or two.
I'll work though that nicely detailed list you gave me tomorrow (and I happen to have an Expodisk and my ceiling is white) and see what happens. Hoping my camera works well, since it has been away for 2 months getting a warrant repair on a burned our circuit board.

 11.
I need to make photos of jewelry for online sales. This is low end quality not fancy shiny gold stuff, but it may have crystal glass and /or semi-precious stones that may glare.

I have a Nikon D70s and some lenses with macro capability but not true macro. SB600 and SB800 flash and one tripod mounted adjustable brightness fixed light.

I also have a white translucent fabric fold up box for product shots (I never have used it)

I have the possibility to get a new Sigma EM-140 Ring Flash for around $280 - but I'm not sure it that has any use or if that price is reasonable.

It was suggested I get a true macro lens - but that's around $1000

I have very little experience with indoor lighting.

 12.
I have used LR for a year, but not seriously. I got Kelbys book and another one a couple of weeks aog, and am working through them. When I first looked inot LR, I was given the impression that offline stuff can be handled fine, but some stuff I've read in the last week, indicates its not so straightforward.

I used to use some other program maybe ThumbsPlus and it handed offline CDs ok. However, I realized I don't have than many CDs with photos, and I have piles of online disk space so I just copied the CDs onto my hard drive.

One feature that makes iMatch outstanding is that it handles old Kodak PhotoCDs and converts them to TIFF that I can then handle them in LR. LR does not allow this obsolete format and I was going to convert them by hand in PhotoShop

 13.
I own lightroom 2.5 and currently have a 30 day evaluation copy of iMatch, but have not had enough time yet to really look at it.

I'm planning on bringing all my existing images into Lightroom, once I get around to scanning old film negatives. At the moment I'm using it 90% just for its library/cataloging features.

I looked at iMatch because of some good reviews I read. Are there any features that it has that make it worth owning in addition to Lightroom - such as better search capabalities.

 14.
That's very helpful, I never heard of JIS. I have a good set of precision screwdriver tips that include Phillips (PH) and Pozidrive (PZ) I was able to open the bottom base using these for one set of screw, but there are also some very tiny ones, that I used my watchmaker screwdriver set for. I am surprised how small the screws are, considering that they would be supporting the leverage weight of the camera and flash unit if on a tripod.

However, once I see the inside, I am a little overwhelmed, it has a lot more electronics than I expected. It appears I may have to take out at least 2 circuit boards before I can even get to the pins. I do know that I will have to remove the pin assembly (which I think uses a ribbon cable to plug into a circuit board) and see if I can repair that, if not, I would have to buy a new part.

 15.
My camera was working this morning and able to display pictures on the installed card.

I put in a brand new card today, which I then forramtted without error. However, the screen flashes with CHR and I get a message "this card can not be used". The same happens with the original card, I can read the imags from the origanal card from my computer. The rest of the screen correctly shows lens info, so I dont think the board is hosed or shorted.

I checked the pins, and one was bent, probably because I put in the card sideways, I was able to very carefully straighten it, but I still have the problem, it seems the pin, even though now straight, has been pushed down below the levels of the other pins.

An over the phone estimate for repair is around $500, a used D80 is $550, a new D90 around $1000 - I have 4 Nikon lens and 2 flashes so I need to stay compatable) and right now I don't have budget for any of that (I don't make money off my photos)

A few hour ago, I found an article somewhere (maybe in here, maybe not) about how to try and do self repair including how to open the camera up - and I have the skills and the mini screwdrivers to do that, but now I cannot find the info.

 16.
Thanks - I checked and I have it on - I agree its safer to spread the info around.

I have too admit I have not even got to using developer yet, I've spent the last 2 weeks cleaning up what I loade inot LR over the last year and adding a lot of new images from 1996-1998 from old Digital cameras where the metadata about cameras models and dates did not import correctly and have had to patch them with exfitool.

The benefit is that by now every image had bene rewritten several times so for sure the metadata is in the JPG and XMP files
