If you're going to shoot sports, get it. Otherwise buy something newer. The D2X is a fine piece of equipment, and perfect for everything up to 400ISO. Don't get me wrong, it is very good above 400 ISO as well, but not compared to today's dSLR's.

I think the result is quite right with this lens. I agree with the others that said that for shooting a large subject like a building so close, you should have stopped down more, or even focus a little further (the tower maybe? ).

Edit: Also, Ken Rockwell is not a benchmark, IMHO.
Edit2: Your Lumix is excused to produce larger depth of field, due to smaller absolute focal length(s).

Example with Provia 100:

I also use Velvia 100, 50 and Provia 100F. I must say, that for general type of photography, I always prefer the Provia. It is just wonderful! Medium contrast that suits every occasion and punchy (but not saturated) colors! Velvia 50 is also a must for EVERYTHING except for skin tones.
On the other hand, I am very disappointed with Velvia 100. I hate the magenta cast it produces in the shadows an many times on neutral colors. I event tried shooting it at 80 ISO, but still I don't like it. I am shooting my last rolls and I won't use it anymore.
Also, try shooting Velvia 50 at 40 ISO. In the old days, it was a matter of preference, but now if you are scanning your slides at home, I think Velvia must always be overexposed by a third.

Velvia has a very narrow contrast range, higher than average contrast also, and if you want to scan it at home, always shoot it at 40, so you over-expose it by 1/3 and avoid those dark blacks it produces.

I am using a Nikon D2x and D80 for my work and an F4 and FE10 for everything else!

I am also using Ubuntu 9.04 exclusively, and I also use it for scanning. Vuescan is the way to go (SANE is just a driver package, the scanning front-end is very primitive).

I also scan to DNG, but I find UFRaw inadequate. For RAW processing, I suggest RAWTherapee (www.rawtherapee.com) which is very good.
