  1. Dear Hugo C. Romano

I understand the reasons for your anger against some users of Photo.net that give very low ratings

Also to me happen quite often to receive very low marks often by the same group of persons to whom recently I'm sending this letter I am attaching. Some responded me politely, others in a rude way, others have not responded, the last to which I sent a letter is Katarzyna Gritzmann whose ratings average is 3.10.

I think that the direction of Photo.net should not allow the use of very low votes anonymously or that the vote must be accompanied by a judgment which explain the reasons of the low rate, and also permit the rate only to the persons in compliance with the payment of the registrations as in use in the photo contest.

This is the letter that I'm sending to people who give low rate

"Observing your average ratings I note a tendency to a very low rating.

One of the aims of Photo.net is to be able to compare with other photographers and try profit from their experiences in order to improve their photographic skills also following their advice. Giving very low votes as you do without to give an explanation has not much sense. One can also accept a low rating if the vote is also associated with a judgment specifying the reasons such, a bad composition, under- or overexposure, errors in the depth of field, color, aesthetics etc. etc. Otherwise many photographers feel humiliated and avoid proposing their photographs thus losing the opportunity to correct their mistakes and improve the quality of their images. Some also awards very high marks hoping in reciprocity, but also this without any comment makes no sense. Each one must be able to judge according to his own experience, for example, I do not do wedding photos and I do not permit myself to judge the work of other wedding photographers who surely will be much more clever than me. Equally for naturalistic photos, anyone can perform perfect photos of animals in the tranquility of a Zoo, different is to get good photos in the natural environment with all the difficulties involved, this must be assessed in the voting. Another tip is to visit the portfolio of several photographers, each with their own specialties, street photography, nude, landscapes, portraits etc to be able to draw inspiration from their works in order to improve. Each one of us happened to make a nice picture, but if a photographer has many beautiful photos we say that he is a good photographer. It 's just my opinion, it is better to add a comment or criticism to a photo that assign a low rate, in the exchange of opinions there is always more to learn."

    kindest regards
