I am taking a more active interest in underwater photography and was

Looking for general impressions. This is my first serious attempt at
underwater photography. That is why I picked a still creature. I used
a borrowed Nikonos V with a 20mm lens and a SB 105 strobe set to
aperture (f11) and TTL respectively. Focusing and strobe control was
the most difficult aside from the current along the wall which kept
trying to pull me off me spot. I was at about 75 feet. A strobe
sure does bring out color you don't see underwater.

I do like the cropped the version better, especially when displayed on the screen. I left the sky and the bottom part partly because it's closer to what is in the slide and partly because the slide offers more detail in those areas than I could get out of my scanner. Thanks for the suggestion, I'll be reprinting the newer version.

Ko'okipa Beach is on the northern side of Maui, about 10 miles east
of the airport. While waiting to catch the sunset on a cloudy
backdrop, the sun at the last minute broke through and casted a
wonderful golden light on the east side of the beach where the cliffs
begin.
The light hit these fence posts and created a "beacon" that drew my
attention, not too mention the golden color on already reddish dirt
that really added to the moment. It's too bad my HP S20 scanner had
such a hard time balancing the highlights with the shadows as the
slide really looks great.
Film is Fuji provia 400f using a Nikon N65 and AFD 35-105mm lens @f8,
A2 filter on a tripod.

The film is Fuji Velvia, not Provia 100F and I used an A2 warming filter by Nikon. Other than some minor cropping and adjustments (sharping, black.white points, etc) using Photoshop, the slide looks just like the image, but better. I try to always have the image look as close to the original as possible.

While driving around the eastern side of Maui along a rough, gravelly
and narrow road, I came across the Piilani Highway. The road didn't
seem to fit with this part of the island as the southeast side is a
desert, without any signs of habitation by anyone, totally deserted.
Yet, there was this beautiful roadway, with sporatic patches of green
that seems to go no where.
