I like this. The horizon is even and yet the diagonal lines on the pavement lead you ahead, also the part of the bridge on the right removes any symmetry, creating a dynamic interplay of lines. An example of well thought out urban landscape.

The composition is good. I'd crop a bit off the bottom to tighten it. The lines and color are pleasing, the piles nicely ground the photo as a center of interest. I wish the sky in the color and the distance was a bit more preserved as that would accentuate the distance more vividly. But I guess the day must have been cloudy and overcast, because the light overall appears muted.
  1. This is one of the first waterfall that is several feet high. It comes

early in the trail at the park. I have many other similar photos from

the park. The one thing that I like about this one is the serene

caption of the water surrounded by the lush greens and browns of the

place. The calmness of the place is nearly brought to life.

But that's just me, what do you guys think about it?

  2. Everyone,

Thanks for the comments. This was a departure from my typical photo trips. I actually spent more time thinking with my feet than with the zoom. I tried to visualize the location and the composition before pushing the button. It appears it was well worth it. I'll probably visit this park again in the fall when the foliage turns colors.

    Thanks,

    Vele

  3. I think this photo balances the calmness and serenity of the old man

reading his paper with the sexually-active pigeons, while providing

some context of the background. I turned it into a sepia in PS because

it suspends time and gets rid of the really ugly colors on the Jersey

City waterfront. Does it work or does it need work? I appreciate your

    comments.

  4. What time of day was it and what exposure did you use?

The photo itself is a bit non-descript, not bad, but not that inviting either. What I find most interesting is the amount of detail in the photo from the close mountain and rocks, to the bright blue sky and clouds. That looks like a very wide dynamic range captured on film successfully. Very good.

  5. I would like opinions on this. I think this was the best of a series

of shots from these creatures in a park. In hindsight I only wish I

had opened more depth, to f/5.6 or f/8 perhaps. The distance wasn't

that war, but I still like the fact that the iguana is very clear,

while the unnecessary rocks are blurred. There were minor levels and

sharpening in PS. What do you think of the overall composition?

    Thanks,

  6. I would appreciate comments on this photo. It was a very long shot,

effective focal length was 480mm. I used circular polarizer to reduce

sun reflections. Finally, the photo was cropped with levels,

saturation and sharpening done in PS. I personally like the stacked

colors of the forest behind, with the isolated trees (more like

bushes) in the front. That is springtime bloom. Thanks,

  7. I would like hear comments on the overall composition. Although it is

far from being a excellent photo, I think it captures well the

quaintness of the lake on a late summer afternoon. I wasn't sure how

much of the beach to include, but as it stands it fits the rule of

thirds. The scan probably doesn't do it justice since there is a hint

    of red/magenta shift. Thanks,

  8. Last time I checked, this was a photo critique forum, so I posted a photo for ritique. Vagelis's comments are clearly out of line and very insulting, especially in a photo critique forum. In addition, to Macedonians like me they are the equivalent of fighting words. I certainly didn't try to engage in any debates, especially this one, and merely pointed this out to Vagelis. So, if you have some criticism for the photo, please, let us have it. Otherwise, I would very much appreciate if this is the last comment on this issue on photo.net. Thanks,
  9. Vagelis,

Your comments belong to a more appropriate place, like alt.news.macedonia, where you can spend endless days in ridiculous tirades about where is Macedonia and who's more Macedonian.

As for me, I was born in Prilep, Macedonia, now Republic of Macedonia. If you were to escape from your ignorant mind and visit Skopje, Prilep, etc, you will clearly see the signs of a country called Republic of Macedonia and not FYROM. I personaly know many Greek people who have a lot more sense than to engage this really tiresome debate.

For others, please excuse this digression from the regular photo critiqe.

    Regards,

  10. This photo is great. Beautiful colors and ambience, and despite all being centered, it works very well.

My only problem is the unlevel horizon. It appears that it is slightly tilted to the right. On images like this that are placed on the center with distinct geometric lines, it becomes even more important to level the horizon.

  11. Please review this waterfall shot. It was in a park and that's why

the frame is fully filled. Opening the frame wider would have

introduced elements that would have ruined the waterfall composition.

    Please review. Thanks,
