Hehehe, I would, if I could!

There are actual reasons it is so close to the actual wedding. We are all in the
military and this wedding has been put up at the last minute... its all planned out and will be
beautiful, but has not left us with a lot of time. I am not a slacker.
I shoot with a Canon Digital Rebel.

I am going to be taking pictures of my first wedding this Saturday,
here in Hawaii. The wedding starts at 630pm, and is the classic
sunset wedding.
I am in a bit of a tizzy as I am worried about using flash or not
using flash! Also, how do you guys feel about using a diffuser? Or a
lensbaby for a wedding?
Any pointers on a sunset beach wedding I can get would be great!

Another CG officer piping up here!
The smaller boat can make it hard, and it is also hard with the white ship because of the way it reflects light. Definitely sunrise or sunset leads to dramatic CG pictures, because of the way the light will play. I would rather avoid the middle of the day.
Also, the bow breaking the waves is a classic shot which would be why they would ask for that. It can be kind of hard to get, so I would really suggest a circular polarizer to cut back on the glare from the water. Getting the shore in the background is a good idea as well, as it is good to give a perspective on where the ship is home ported.
As for a broadside shot, those do really work well when they are aerial, this is one of mine of a cutter. Here is one out to sea

Alright, I am not sure what I did... but I seem to have trouble
getting my Canon D.Rebel to auto focus. This happens when it is in
Parameter 1 for some reason.

You know, after getting some great and helpful critiques from two
other members...I got to thinking.
Wouldn't it be nice if when someone gave you a 3 or below, they
couldn't hit the send on it unless they took the time to put in an
actually written comment? Then they would have to write at least a
little something.
It is wonderful to get comments that are good from people who gave
good ratings...but the people I really would like to have comment are
the people who give me low scores, to help me learn.

I agree with the person who said, contact a shelter offer your services to take pictures for their brocures...and then just help out too.
I am running into the same thing right now, where I feel a little timid just taking pictures when I am out and about. Normally I have a captive group with work, but going out and just taking pictures around town I am shy. If you figure out any neat tricks, let me know!
