  1. I made a side-by-side matcher, since I got tired of putting these pics together manually, and put it online so you can now click-boom for cool matches

    '+' matches both pics,
clicking on a pic matches the keywords of the other pic.
'-' goes opposite in color space
'|' picks random keyword matched pair

The example is a color-based match from '-'.

  2. I just tried "Similar / Related Photos, View other images enjoyed by photo.net members who like this photo" on the right side above the ad, and got just one photographer's photos for as long as I had patience (in the process of scrolling down and back to see whose pic it was): 10 pics. Each time it was a certain JMcR!

I wonder if the singularity of choice is due to strong association of our styles, or just simple software (I would have more variety of photogs, sampling like the Critique section does, but proportional to the level of match with each photographer). It's the same in a different browser that isn't signed in, so everyone will see the same sequence I think. I suspect it will go through all of Jack's photos before choosing another photographer.

Good to be in good company!

  3. I tried taking myself out of the equation by selecting every vertical pair that came up in a session, partly to look objectively at the level of quality beyond the cream of the crop, and partly to use photo.net's slideshow option to get a rough preview of what the side-by-side interface will look like. See the 'glued pairs: series' folder for the result, and the Critique on the first pair for more on the methodology.

  4. Thanks Jack, I'm just panning the gold as it were. It's sort of fun to sift through the pics sequentially to find the interesting vertical pairs and then copy them to email where I screenshot them side by side, but it's so rewarding I think I'll make an interface that puts the vertical pairs up side by side together to save on work.

I just rearranged the folder to make a cool slide show (and added some more pics).

Thanks Jack and Steve. It's the moon, can't say if it was going up or down - I guess it's always up in the early evening? For me the texts and the three circles interact. Maybe the first time anyone has compared me to a name brand photographer!

Looks maybe like sharpening artifacts around the background tire swirls? I love the texture (along with the soft swoop of the road), and if the original was softer, I'd go back a bit on the editing.

  5. I think it's interesting - disquieting because of the lens distortion and so many symbols lined up, but I like the stacked effect and the view beyond arrayed death to a diagonal of immortality. I also like the angle between the cosmos and the line of trees.

Nice pose. I would mask and darken her face and hand a little. I find the disappearance of the bridge of her nose disconcerting, and the fingers seem blown out. Maybe lighten the scarf slightly to bring out the pattern as well.

I like the way the mountains on the right lean back from the curve of the road, which parallels the gorge curving up into the mountains. My first instinct before seeing that was to try editing the sepia cast, which I've taken a stab at with gimp for the first time.

    Rusty Parts

I see an iconic abstract - rusty angels hanging over earthbound reality. I'm working on software to free associate pics, and it'd be interesting to see what it does with this.
