  1. Hi together,<br><br>

I have written a little tutorial on how to easily build a multimedia slideshow

combining photography and audio. If you are interested in multimedia stories

this might be interesting for you.<br><br>

Hope that helps, any feedback is appreciated!<br><br>

  2. Hi together,<br><br>

Magnum In Motion launched their <a href="http://inmotion.magnumphotos.com/"

target="_blank">new website</a> after many, many hours of hard work. It's been

an interesting as well as an intense time to work on the new site and it's

content. Finally the new site is visible to the public and our multimedia

content found an appropriate place on the web.<br>

So far we published about 20 multimedia essays and 14 podcasts.<br>

It's also sort of a sneak preview on Magnum's new site that will be launched

    later this year....<br><br>

    Any feedback is highly appreciated!<br><br>

  3. i guess if you do commercial work you would need a permit but i doubt that you'd get problems especially at a place were you can see a bunch of professional photographers on every given day such as coney island.<br><br>

it only happened to me once that i was bothered there. by a mother...<br>

if you are interested you can read an <a href="http://www.journalofaphotographer.com/street/no_i_do_not_need_a_permission_to_photograph_in_a_public_place.php" target="_blank">article on my website</a>.<br><br>

  4. Hm, honestly it makes me think that suddenly - and there are plenty of examples on the web - people are able to take "vacation-adventure" trips to a place like Chernobyl. Once I came across a forum thread on Photoblogs.org were a bunch of people were thinking of taking a trip there together to shoot. An adventure trip. But for which reason? Is it to do serious work or to say "Man, I've been there"?

Personally I think that doing work at a place such as in Chernobyl it takes more than a day or two of walking around and shooting. You need time, you need to show more than just empty and destroyed buildings. You need a certain idea and concept of what you want to show.

Please don't misunderstand me Mark but I've seen plenty of images that show exaxtly what your images show. So they do not add to a better understanding as I see it. Also as mentioned above, editing is at least as important as shooting. I would like to see an edit of your photographs that is cut down to let's say 10 photographs.

Hope you take my criticism right.

    Best,

    Martin

  5. Thanks for your feedback. If you find something you do not like or which is missing please let me know so that I have the ability to improve for future interviews.

Pete and Marlene Woronowski: I am not planning to do an interview with James Nachtwey in the near future. I have the feeling that so much about him and his work was already covered by the movie "War Photographer" which you can get on Amazon.

  6. Hi together,<br><br>

I wanted to let you know that I just published the second audio

interview in a series of interviews with photographers. This time I

    interviewed Joachim Ladefoged from VII.<br><br>

The interview has a total length of almost 42 minutes and is divided

into 4 chapters. Every chapter can be downloaded as a MP3 file. Thats

quite a long interview but I hope that it will be worth the time.<br><br>

Joachim talks about the circumstances under which he got his first

camera, why photography saved his life and what drives him to

photograph. He tells us about his time as a newspaper photographer,

about the importance of awards, about his time at Magnum and why he

now feels blessed to be with VII. Ladefoged talks about the

relationship to the people he photographs and to the ones he has with

writers, about his Albanian project and furthermore gives a lot of

insight into his career and offers advice for young photographers.<br><br>

The interview can be downloaded at:<br>

    target="_blank">http://www.journalofaphotographer.com/interview_joachim_ladefoged.html</a><br><br>

I appreciate every feedback you want to give and any improvement

    suggestions for upcoming interviews!<br><br>

    Thanks a lot,<br>

  7. Thank's sooo much for all your answers. I am really glad you seem to like what I put much effort in. It's just the start, let's see where it might lead us! :-)

To answer a couple of questions:

Nels, the next interview which will be published shortly will be the long promised interview with Joachim Ladefoged from VII. I am working on more photographers but bare with me until these interviews are set.

As far as your second questions on the income of Magnum Photographers goes. I can not tell you any numbers but there are huge differences. Obviously when you are one of the older Magnum photographers, with a lot of iconic images in the archive you'll earn bettern than one of the younger Magnum photographers... But please understand that I can't and don't want to discuss this in a public forum.

And Thomas, the highpass filter... Well I am just adding some contrast to the corners of the images basically. Couldn't give you a technically mature answer on that since I just found this Filter somehow, somewhen (can't remember when or where that was) and played around with it.

So thank's a lot again to everybody!

  8. Hi together,<br><br>

Please excuse this selfpromotion of my new site but I thought that it

might be interesting to some of you. It is a continuation of my old

site "New York Photoblog" which I ran during my time as an intern at

    Magnum Photos in New York.<br>

Now I am back in New York and at Magnum and started a new site called

    "Journal Of A Photographer".<br><br>

    <a href="http://www.journalofaphotographer.com"

I'd be interested to hear your opinions!<br><br>

    Thanks a lot,<br>

  9. Hi all,<br><br>

Magnum says hello again and they wish us a Happy New Year with a new

and very powerful multimedia essay. Magnum nominee Christopher

Anderson (whom I interviewed in New York already) travelled to Bolivia

in December to photograph the election of Evo Morales, a former coca

farmer intent on bringing socialism to his indigenous countrymen.

Chris Anderson photographed before, during and after the presidential

elections and did not only bring back impressive black and white

photographs but also field recordings he did during his 10 days

    trip.<br><br>

This essay and the old essays can be found at <a

I really like this essay. Would be great to hear what you think.<br><br>

  11. Thanks a lot for all your feedback. I appreciate that a lot and will try to transform your input into the next interviews I am going to publish.

Oh and thank's for pointing out the typo mistakes.

And Andy, I enjoyed meeting you in Woodstock as well. I do still think that your photography is outstanding! I am looking forward to see a book of your photographs one day! Keep it rollin.

  12. Hi together,<br>

I would like to let you know about a new feature I just put online.

During my time in New York I started to work on a series of interviews

with photographers. So far I interviewed Simon Wheatley from Magnum,

Joachim Ladefoged from VII and Chris Anderson from Magnum. More to

    come...<br><br>

Yesterday I published the first interview with Simon Wheatley. I

divided the interview into 11 chapters and every chapter can be

downloaded as a MP3. The total length of the interview is 45 minutes

    and 46 seconds.<br><br>

    <a

    href="http://www.newyorkphotoblog.com/blog/interview_simon_wheatley.html"

    target="_blank">http://www.newyorkphotoblog.com/blog/interview_simon_wheatley.html</a><br><br>

I hope you'll be interested in the interview and please let me know if

you have any comments on this interview or improvement suggestions for

    the following.<br><br>

    Thanks a lot,<br>

    Martin
