  1. I apologize for my elementary question. When taking pics with my 20d,580

speedlight, and 70-200 mm or 24-70mm lens f/2.8 in AV mode, WHY is the fastest

shutter I can get is 1/40 or 1/50th and they are out of focus! What do I

do...driving me crazy in lowlight settings like party walkarounds or indoor

    pictures. Thanks

  2. what would you buy next???

    I have a canon 20d with 580 flash with gary fong's lightsphere

    lenses are 70-200 2.8,17-40,24-70 2.8 canon L lenses

Now I photograph sporting events, weddings, portraits, social events, etc... I have two weddings coming

up...outdoor ceremony, indoor receptions 100-200 guests at both. Also have bar mitzvah coming up too.

Should I get a compact battery kit for my 580 flash to keep from going throu AA Batteries left and rightOR

a flash bracket? Which one and what kind?

    HELP ME DECIDE!! Thanks

  3. I have been studying this on the net for about an hour and a half and just don't seem to get

it. Can someone explain it to me? I have a Canon 20d with 580 speedlite, 17-40 f4 lens,

24-70 2.8, and 70-200mm 2.8...all canon lenses. I really want to be able to learn this

technique and something is just not registering with me. I am shooting a casual wedding sat

night and would love to nail this before then (this is my first wedding) Thanks!

  4. in trying to expand my business (www.thatsagreatpicture.com) and showcase a modeling

portfolio I have a shoot tomorrow with a model who should do a great job. 5'11'' blonde blue

eyed girl really excited about it. What should I be trying to accomplish tomorrow to

showcase some great pictures to not only attract business but capture great images. Will be

    using my 20d. I have a tripod, 17-40 L,24-70 L, and 70-200mm 2.8 IS,USM. What are great

shots, dress, locations, etc for the first time out. I have ideas but want to hear from others.

    Thanks in advance.<div>00F7Yp-27935884.jpg.136e7017914902f28ceff7f6cf34b2bd.jpg</div>

  5. Thanks to all who responded to my previous post. Great info and as you can see helped out

a lot. This picture was made at f/10 and 150th of a second with canon 20d IS, USM on tripod

at 7pm here in Georgia, USA. Is this the best I can expect or should it be even better. ISO

was at 100 and white balance set to daylight with partial metering. Thanks, John

  6. Trying to do "astrophotography" and my efforts were horrible. Canon 20d, 70-200mm IS,

USM on tripod. Thought I need to open up aperture to 2.8 to let the light from the moon in

but that bombed. Then left shutter open for 3-8 seconds and that was worse. ISO was on

100,200, and 800. Still Crappy. All I want is a good clear shot of the moon. What am I doing

    wrong?<div>00F5wS-27896984.jpg.47c063a5f9868a08fa571a3c5a150afd.jpg</div>

  7. I will check out the other post also. The setting is actually in the new library here in the

city....at night. High ceilings, everyone in black dresses and tuxedos. Just want to make

sure I got all bases covered. Don't want a bunch of white bright faces and do I need my

    70-200mm!?

  8. Hired by a marketing company on Sat night for a black tie well to do fundraiser. Want me to

photography candid shots, cocktail party, some of the speaker...etc. There will be 120

people. Have 20d, with 580 flash, canon 24-70mm L series f/2.8. Any advice or

suggestions for the shoot. Want to impress!... and no repsonse is to elementary for me.

    Thanks for all your input.

  9. First time out with new 70-200mm canon L lens. IS and USM on a Canon 20d. This pic was

taken on autfocus. shutter at 1/250 and aperture at 4 something. I ask this as a humble

(very humble) advanced amateur photographer. WHAT went wrong and what can I do to make

this right nect time. Thanks in advance.

No repsonse is too elementary for me.<div>00EUm8-26944684.thumb.JPG.008cce8d50d741fc45e5c156feb33df7.JPG</div>

  10. that pic was actually taken without the flash. I appreciate everyones feedback. Please visit

www.thatsagreatpicture.com to see my business. I guess my lowest comfort level is with

lighting so that is where I am studying and practicing. I think I will arrive way early to assess

the area. Please continue to offer suggestions. Thank you again.

  11. I have to shoot a 80th suprise bday party Sat night for a women's father who booked with me

last week. The party is in her home in an affluent part of town. She wants "set up" shots and

candids. I am assuming she is meaning posed shots. I have 20d canon with great l series

lenses but I have NO lighting as we are new in the photography business. What does

everyone recommend...using ambient light or purchasing studio lights or what??? This party

is a BIG DEAL and want to be professional. Thanks in advance. John<div>00ES1H-26880984.jpg.5a0561a722fb153b0da6a6daaf84567b.jpg</div>

  12. Hello...I am doing group cheerleader pictures at a tournament this weekend. I am using a

canon20d, 17-40mm f/2.8,580 flash. I am by no means a pro but have a little business on

the side. (www.thatsagreatpicture.com) IF you go to ONLINE PROOFING and cheerleader

galleries you will see some potraits. ANYWAY that took a lot of photoshop to get them

looking halfway decent. Wolf camera guy told me novatorn constant light kit cl04k was a

great choice. What does everyone think and what advice can anyone give me to have great

results and do a professional job? I want to be able to use the lights again for other jobs (see

other galleries at website). Thanks and I apologize for the long message
