  1. Once again, thanks for all the info guys.

I have bought a couple off a UK Ebay Store for ᆪ24.90 each. Genuine, boxed, guaranteed, etc. Amazon ones looked like they had a strange postage cost as they were from an Amazon store.

Hopefully, I have a friend who is off to the States later in the year and he'll get me some more goodies I need.

    Cheers

  2. Thanks all,

I just thought that Nikon would have their batteries made by a battery specializing company such as duracell, so these would be a better choice than cheap Chinese imports.

I should know from my work as a HP specialist that if you don't use genuine parts, then any warranty can easily be invalidated, but you often wonder, why buy HP branded memory, when Kingston make nothing else? It's always a dilemma I have to deal with, especially when the finance people are involved, but in this case, having all your eggs in one basket, means there is only one basket to blame if it all goes wrong.

OK, the hunt continues. hoping to get under ᆪ25, so here goes!

  3. Hi All,

I've been scanning around the web this morning trying to find a couple of reasonably priced OEM EN-EL3e as I hate

the idea of using cheap copies. You know the sort I mean, ᆪ6 for the battery and charger as opposed to ᆪ40 for

    the OEM battery only.

However, my search turned up a Duracell and Energizer version. In my eyes, both are well respected and known for

    quality batteries.

The Duracell is even has a bit more power too.

Has anyone ever used either of them and if so, are they any good?

    Thanks

  4. Hi all,

Well, tomorrow is the big day. I finally get my hands on a shiney new 70-200

F/2.8 VR. I ordered it back end of March and joined the waiting list. This

week, I received the call I had been waiting for - it's arrived!

    Any how, enough wittering on.

Since I sold my D70s kit to get the new lens, I am now looking for a replacement

for the 18-70 I did have. I am thinking of the 16-85 VR.

It will be used for general family portraits, still life, and strobist shots.

    Also semi wide landscape shots.

Other lenses I have left after the sell-up are...

Sigma 12-24 - landscapes and architecture

Sigma 105 macro - errr macro work?

Would the 16-85 fill the gaps, or am I barking up the wrong tree? If so, what

should I consider? My budget is around ᆪ400/$800.

    Thanks in advance.

  5. As a newcomer to photography, I find nature photography more rewarding and helpful for improving my skills.

It doesn't get bored with me constantly taking shot after shot tweaking a different setting each time. It never whines "Can we go home now, I'm cold". There's plenty to chose from either on the doorstep, or deep in the remote valleys.

And, if I get home and I don't like the shots I have, I can always go back the same spot and it'll still be there.

  6. Hi Alan,

As there are so many different setting possibilities to achieve the results you desire, I would start off by having a look at places like Flickr.com.

I have found many pictures that I liked the look of with the results I wanted. Once you find the style you like, you can have a look "More Properties" and it will list all the settings used to take the photo.

  7. There is a new regulation that has been bought in for the Reduction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS).

This basically means that all new items have to be manufactured without using lead (as in solder), as well as some other materials. This kicked in around June/July last year.

It is perfectly legal to use items, otherwise everyones TVs, PCs, toasters, etc would be banned. It only affects newly manufactured items.

If you look at new European electronic items, they should display the RoHS symbol.

    Cheers

  8. Thanks for the help so far, very much appreciated.

@Walter, Thanks for the "How to" link. I'll have a good read.

@Mark, Looks like I need an Intro Pack, but what type for a D70s?

@Richard, Already have a Rocket, this definitely needs a wet clean.

    Cheers

  9. Hi all,

I'm off to Nikon tomorrow (5 hour round trip) to get my CCD cleaned by them as I

couldn't wait the possible 3 weeks if I sent it in for repair.

What I would like to know is, if any one else has taken their camera to them?

If so, are they happy to show you how to clean it, or is it a closely guarded

    secret?

I was told on the phone that it would only take 10-15 mins, but for around 22,

I would like to see how it's done.

    Many thanks

    Ian
