  1. The F10 with ISO 800 and ISO 1600 can reduce motion blurr, but you still need good techniques to take pictures. Always prefocus in the first stage of of the shutter button, then wait for a good opportunity to press the shutter gently but exerting slight pressure. Do not punch down the button - this practically ensure that you will have shakes.

  2. The Fuji F10 is not exactly for serious photography - but it produces the cleanest pictures I have seen for ISO 400 for a compact. Compared to many other compacts, it is actually fully useable, even ISO 800 is cleaner than many compact camera's ISO 400. And even ISO 1600 is available - though rather noisy - is similar to what many other compact cameras at ISO 400. The battery life is supposed to be fantastic - about 500 shots, the shutter delay is very little and the shutter action is very fast.

The main downers are that there is no control over aperture or shutter speed, no contrast or sharpening control, stupid charging system, xD memory cards (which is rather expensive), some purple fringing near the edge of the frame, and only jpeg files.

I have a Canon 350XT DSLR which is cleaner but only somewhat cleaner. I think the F10 is very good p & s for the money and does what it is supposed to do very well.

  3. I have both, the 17-40 I bought for my old D30. When I bought the 300D kit ( I wanted the kit lens for reason of portability and size ), I did some test to see how it compares. I found that the 18-55 at f3.5-f4 is rather soft at the corners, while the 17-40 at f4 has better contrast and sharper throughout ( center and corner ). At f5.6, the 18-55 just matches the 17-40 at f4. At f8-f11, the contrast and sharpness are similar but the 18-55 has quite bad C.A at the corners while the 17-40 has very little C.A throughout.

It is worth usd 600 more? It is your call. For me, the 18-55 serves the purpose of a walkabout lens when I don't care to carry the much larger 17-40mm, but for serious and critical work, the 17-40 mm is necessary.

  4. HI,

I have a Minox 35MB which uses an mercury old battery ( I'm not sure of the type since I lost the manual ). How do I get it to use a new battery type ( say Lithium )? What battery adapter do I need to get? By the way, I am in Malaysia, so it is kind of hard to obtain this sort of part.

    Thanks.
