  1. I've been there and got that some picture, but with an older lady monk in it. That same lady also happen to have appeared in a photography book that I got, by Michael Freeman, so you might have seen her, too. Anyway, I assumed it was Buddha, until I did a quick search on Google, and found that here http://www.slrobertson.com/cambodia-angkor-wat.htm and here http://www.jupiterimages.com/popup2.aspx?navigationSubType=itemdetails&itemID=22989979 it may actually be Vishnu.
  2. I like the idea of 'credits' for giving critiques. These could be used for storing extra pictures. There's not really a culture here on giving advice on how to improve your technique, but only congratulating achieved photographers. I've learnt more from Minolta Users forum, than I have here, simply because of the members culture in being constructive. I've just posted a rant against 3/3 raters, I do agree with you on how the current system is beneficial, but a score of 1 to 7, as psychologists have found for their test instruments, is usually quite accurate. I still support the 1 - 7 system, but not with the malicious (or uncalibrated) Raters.
  3. This is a spectators point of view. It seems that 6mp is the minimum standard for DSLR work, for most situations. That is, assuming it`s a good quality sensor, like those used in KMinolta, Nikon and Canon. Going up to 8mp? Hmm... It seems to me that I`d choose a camera if it had features that I needed, and 8mp is just an added benefit. It also seems to me that this 6mp or 8mp debate will continue to 8mp or 10mp.

My motivation for this? I`m coming down to chosing either Nikon D70s or KMinolota aSweet (aka Dynax5). I think I`ll be chosing KM for the Anti-Shake feature, but then the high frame rate of the Nikon is almost as attractive. ;)

  4. In my experience, the Great Ocean Road will be teeming with folks on holidays. It'll be bumper to bumper, with motorbikes zipping in between. I think you'll end up taking people shots, of frustrated tourists having their chips stolen by seagulls. Looking forward to see those! Seriously, expect the worst, and consider different subjects as well. Good luck.
  5. You've also got to consider what language it'll be in. I bet, even if they could speak English, it'll be at the intermediate level (mostly for basic social interactions only), and they won't know the technical terms properly to explain stuff to us. I've been asking around, and I'll let you know when I find something.
  6. I've lived in Taiwan, now Japan, and I've visited Cambodia, Hong Kong and Maccau. The only trouble I've had was in Hong Kong, after getting out of an air conditioned bus into the the humidity; mind you it was a low cloud base day, and I was on Victoria Peak, so the lens fogged up. It seems to be a common enough problem there, and so I just had to wait for the lens temperature to equalise.

It maybe true that moisture in the barrel could become a problem, but I guess if you continually go from air con' to ambient environ. However, in desperation I bought an old sigma AF 80-300mm in Cambodia (second hand... note 'in desperation'), and there seems to be some (sorry, I don't remember the word) some moisture in the barrel?; it IS an old lens though. Who knows it's history?
