1. Was the picture really worth the distress it caused to both parties? From your description her experience with you has left her clearly shaken.

I'd have apologized. As you were shooting digital you should have showed her the shot on the back of the screen, if she liked it offer to forward her a print. If she didn't like it then show her clearly that you have deleted the file. Was the picture really worth the trouble for you? I'm sure there are plenty more models on the street for your jogger project.

Everyone has a right to object to their picture being taken - even if it's a legal pastime. Life's just to short to get worked up with those that have an objection in being an object of your passion. Move on...

  2. Claude - that 5% can be made up by buying a 300yen wrist strap. A Bessa R3A with 40mm nokton should not be hung round your neck. It needs to be strapped to your wrist and ready for action. And don't get me started on why you should not be wrapping this beast in a case. Glad you enjoy it though (a sound purchase) and hope to see you one day on my Tokyo travels. You can see some of my Bessa work at akikana.com. All photographs on my site taken with same set up as yours.
  3. Normal if you have noise reduction selected. For longer shutter speeds the camera takes a second frame matching the shutter speed selected for first shot, does some internal magic and tries to reduce the noise from the main shot.
  4. If a filter is attached then you need to pull the lens hood fully out before you replace the lens cap. After replacing, gently push the lens hood back and all fits rather snugly. Not doing the first step would indeed make the lens cap redundant. But don't let this put you off this lens. It's a beautiful piece of glass. Enjoy!
  5. Bill,

Slightly off topic. Are you using the SMC FA* 600mm f/4 ED [iF]? I have *istD and before investing in this lens I would appreciate your candid comments on how the lens handles - both good points and bad. Do you have further photographs I could view which were taken using with this lens?

    Many thanks in advance.

  6. Japanese macaques can be found in Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku. You can also find them on the island of Takeshima (in the south). Takeshima is worth a visit in its own right. The ones round Nikko (as Conni states) can be very agressive - so beware. If you're after the shots of these monkeys bathing in hot springs then head for the Jigokundani hot springs in Nagano prefecture (Nagano is a couple of hours on a Bullet Train from Tokyo). Good luck!
