1.
Thanx for all the info guys. Yeah some of you have me scratching my head as well.
To answer some questions. I'm into pretty much all photography, love landscaping especially panorama's, macro and sports photography. I'm also thinking of getting into astro photography.
I used Canon for years, still love Canon, I sold all my gear as I just never had time for photography anymore. I made some investments with the money which is paying off now. I also changed work a few months ago which means I have the time and money now to do photography.
The reason I tried Nikon was that when I bought my first SLR it was a Canon EOS 500N, stunning film camera. I feel I come from a background of too little experience with film and other brands. When someone talked about Nikon or any other make, I wouldn't even have known how that camera feels in my hand. So once I started selling my gear, I did a bit of experimentation as well, bought the Nikon, used it for 2 months (where I had time) and sold it again, not really loosing much money, which of course is good.
I stumbled accross the Pentax K-x by accident on the internet about a week ago, looking at Canon, and it really grabbed me. I'm not interested in Sony, Olympus or any other make, but I have always like Pentax from I "think" it was the Z50.
Anyways, that when I thought before splurging again, I'd like to try the K-x. The features I like is 4.7fps, which is faster than any entry level DSLR, high ISO with a good noise profile. Megapixels don't bother me as much, 12MP is plenty. And the HDR mode as well.
I honestly wasn't aware that Pentax had such great optics, as is mentioned here.
How does Pentax's optics compare to the like of the Canon 100-400 Lens, which is probably my favourite Canon Lens?
Also, in terms of focusing and speed of focusing and optical quality?
If I were to stay with Pentax, I'd probably keep the K-x as a backup / walkaround body, but I'd want a semi-pro body as well... any recommendations?

Anyone used the Tamron 18-250 Lens, as a everyday lens?
Also, I live in Ireland and the prices I'm looking at is in either Ireland or the UK
Thanx guys

  2.
I'm a Canon user. I haven't done any Photography for over a year now, I've sold of all my Canon gear, had a Macro Lens, Ringlite, 6 lenses, 3 of which was L series, tripods, 3 heads, Speedlite Transmitter etc etc... sold everything ages ago.

I want to get into photography again, but before I spend loads of money again on Canon, which I love. I started reading about the Pentax K-x
DSLR. Now I realise it's an entry level camera, but the reviews I've read seems very good.

All I want to do is buy the camera, use it for a while and either upgrade or possibly go back to Canon and replace everything I had.

The only downside I found, was even though the camera is very affordable, I'm looking at accessories as well. If I were to upgrade Pentax, their lenses seem to be fairly expensive, with but a small choice of accessories, where as with Canon, you can pick and choose lenses, loads of bargains etc to be found.

Just want to hear other people's opinions.

Anyone used or owns the K-x DSLR here. it looks like a stunning entry level DSLR

I know what some might say, buy what you want and know, well I'm always curious, I did the same with Nikon a long time ago, bought a Nikon, lenses etc... and although I actually loved it, I still prefered Canon, so I sold it.
On the other hand it might not be too bad, owning a camera with fewer accs available, as my wife always complains that one day I'll give her a heart attack with all the accs I keep on buying.

Anyways, like to hear your thoughts...

Really seems like a stunning camera!

  3.
Hi, I'm running Mac OS X Leopard, fully updated, Photoshop CS 4 and Photoshop Elements 6
I've installed Alien Skin Plugins into Photoshop CS 4, first I tried just installing into the plugins folder (where Alien Skin creates it's own folders with the various plugins) and then I also tried creating a 2nd Plugins Folder (plugins 2 - added that folder in CS 4's preferences), but still Photoshop doesn't read the plugins.

It should be under Filters?
Don't know what I'm doing wrong, I've tried it with Elements 6 as well.

  4.
So I'm buying a new EOS 7D in 2 or 3 months.

I want to either buy the Canon 18 - 200 / Sigma 18 - 200 / Sigma 18 - 250 / Tamron?

Anyone here any advice?

Of course I lean towards the Canon, but I've had two stunning Sigma lenses in the past.

  5.
I'm trying to sell my Canon EF 100 - 400L IS USM Lens.

Been told that in the last year and a half or so the 100 - 400 Lens has had LD Glass (Low Dispersion Glass) added as an upgrade to the lens.

I can't find any info on it, and on Canon's website it still has the same specs as my current lens.

Does anyone here know anything about it?

Thanx

  6.
Has anyone used the new EOS 7D?

I know it's just out (1st September), specs are awesome!

Just don't understand why it's named EOS 7D and not EOS 60D. The reason behind that is that it's not full frame, it sounds more like an upgrade to the 50D, although the SRP is €1600.

Either way, I will soon be owning one.

  7.
Anyone any ideas when the 50D will be upgraded. I think it would probably be the beginning of next year sometime.
I don't have a Canon body at the moment, I do have a Nikon D60. But I'm going to Egypt in May and July next year, so I don't want to buy a 50D and then a month or two afterwards an upgrade is out.

Cheers

  8.
Thanx for everyones respinses.
like some of you said, couldn't see any problems I'm having with Canon. Well, I don't have any problems with Canon at all, I love Canon, but in all aspects of my life I love experimenting. I've never used Nikon in my life and I've sold of allot of Canon gear last year and wanted to start buying again... but a thought came to mind... why not... before buying again, use nikon for a few months???
I sell camera gear as well, more as a hobby, so at least I'll have used Nikon.
Honestly, I only got a D60 with 2 entry level lenses (18 - 55 and 70 - 300) I know it's all very basic. But so far I actually really really like the Nikon. I was also thinking of keepeing my Canon gear, which is worth around €3000 now (eBay used prices). It's allot of money and if I switch, I want to replace them with Nikon, which I worked out will cost me around €3300... not bad. I'll give the 60D to my wife a buy a D300 + 18 - 200 VR lens etc...
Anyways, still far away from making a decision. It's nice to hear everyone's thoughts.
Why is it that you see so many more Canon around though... cheaper?... aggresive marketing?
Also one of the big reasons (not the only), I heard Nikons images are sharper? I'm not too crazy about sharpening in Photoshop. I actually do very little editing. I must say Cano do produce stunning images (tonal range, levels) out of camera.

  9.
I'm in the process off testing out Nikon. I've been a Canon user for about 8 years. Never ever used a Nikon, so the other day I decided to buy a Nikon D60 (I know it's only entry level).
So far I haven't made a decision yet, but i like what I'm seeing so far in Nikon. If I decide to move to Nikon, I'll be buying the D300, have allot of Canon gear (100 - 400 lens, 2 x 580 EX flasguns, ST-E2, 100 mm Macro Lens, Macro Ringlite etc...) to sell off, but for most of it, I have friends that uses Canon, so it'll be easy to get rid off.
Anyone here that used to use Canon, and made the switch to Nikon as well???
I'd like to know anyone's thought on this, especially if you've switched.
The only thing that's throwing me a bit... what's Nikon's Macro gear like? Whatever I have in Canon, I'd like to buy in Nikon if I switch.
Also, Canon has 2 lovely affordable 300 & 400mm Lenses, that I could buy for around €900 each new, Nikon I think has only the 1 affordable 300mm Lens.

Thanx

  10. I would say the EOS 40D, definitely, at 6.5fps it's really as fast as you would need. New DICIG III processor, more bit depth (14 bit).

And the 40D comes at a great price, you can already buy it for around euro 900, and I also own one...fantastic camera!

  11. I also own a 30D - fantastic camera, sounds like you have dust (like Chris JB said, you ONLY see the dust when looking directly at the sensor).

Your shutter isn't working properly, it might only be the 1st shot now, but in a couple of weeks it'd probably work very little, or break completely. Also the CF card button - get it fixed, you paid for a working camera, let them fix it.

I must agree on Canon's service (Ireland & UK), it's very good. I had my previous 20D fixed, very quick.

    Good Luck

  12. I'd agree on the 580EX. I own both the 30D & 580EX.

Excellent combination, with the battery grip (optional) on the camera to stabilize it as well

The 580EX on eBay isn't even that expensive - go for Canon.

I use to own accessories from Sigma, Tamron etc...

Sold them all to buy Canon's.
