Birkenkopf, or as the locals call it “Monte Scherbelino” is the highest

hill surrounding Stuttgart.

Originally the hills height was 471 meters high but in the years 1953 to

1957 the hill was raised by 40 meters by accumulating 1.5 million cubic

meters of debris from the 53 air strikes against Stuttgart, which then

had been destroyed by 45 percent. On the top they put some prominent

facade pieces of the destroyed houses.

Today young boys "re-inact" the bombardment by throwing small stones

on Stuttgart below.
