1.
Hi Folks;
I am considering "the one and only wide angle lens" for my Leica M8 digital body. I am using 50mm summarit f/2,5 6 bit coded lens but I am not happy with the focal length. Since I decided to keep my Canon EOS 1ds(24-70 f/2,8L and70-200 f/4L IS combination), I just want to use my M8 just for wide angle candids. My options are limited. I am considering Zeiss 25mm f 2,8 Biogon T*, Voigtlander 24 f/2 Ultron because of the 1,33 crop factor. I will sell my 50 mm summarit but till that time I will buy one of the wide angle lenses available with a good price. Leica 24-28 mm Wide angles are out of my budget. It is nearly impossible to find a second hand in good condition with a reasonable price. So, before you comment: yes I know the best scenario is to use Leica body with Leica lens but I can live with the 90/100 performance of the 3rd party quality lenses compared to Leica ones. I have seen 3rd party(Voigtlander Pancakes) performance and I am happy with it. I like the discreet feel and simple technology of rangefinders. I do not want to gamble my 1500 bucks on someones 20 year old lens sold on e-bay, just because "its Leica" since there is no option(inspect in detail, try and buy) for me in Turkey.
Anybody used Ultron or Biogon? What is your experience about these two lenses? If you used both that would be first thing I would like to hear.

Thanks in advance;
2.
Hi Friends,
I need your suggestion for my Leica M8 I just bought. I am planning an ultrawide angle lens. I have already 50 mm f/2,5 summarit lens. I have a limited budget around 500 USD. I am considering two Voigtlanders:

Super Wide-Heliar Aspherical II 15mm f/4.5 Lens

Color-Skopar 21mm f/4.0 P Pancake Lens

Is there anybody who has as experience with these two? And also do you suggest external viewfinder for these lenses.
Your help appreciated.

 3.
Hi Folks;
Considering to buy a back up battery for my Leica M8 but I do not really want to spend 130 dollars for original Leica battery since the charge level of my main battery is still fine and I hope, I will use it for quite more. As the charging goes down I will buy another original one. For now, just for extreme limited conditions, I need a spare third party one, in my pocket till the next charge of the main battery. I will not use this spare unless I am stucked in the middle of a shot. Anybody using other specific brands for a reliable period of time, without any problems(heating, shutter lag etc), would you kindly share your experiences?

Thanks in advance;

Hakan

 4.
Jeff,
You're right it is sharper at 135 mm and at other focal lengths with f/4. But I think you will agree that if you have 2,8 lens you should get most of it so, you would like to switch to 2,8. No need to carry bulky one if you would not use its maximum aperture. At 200 mm, you'll noticeably see that 70-200 f/4 is sharper(at wide open f/4) than 70-200 f/2,8(wide open at 2,8). If I carry telephoto lens, I generally use its maximum focal length, especially for candids.

 5.
Dear All;
What would be your first choice while purchasing brand new 70-200 f/4(non IS) vs second hand 70-2,8 f/2,8(non IS) and why. Their price is nearly same. I can get used(2006 production, 9/10 grade) 2,8 with paying extra 150-200 bucks over brand new f/4 one. Certainly it will be great to have an extra f stop but it is bulkier and will be some one's used lens(perhaps dropped). On the other hand I also think the build quality of the 2,8 one is much more better-it is legend. I am really confused. I will use it on my Canon EOS 1Ds(mark i). My other lens is 24-70 f/2,8L I am pleased with its performance.
Thanks in advance for your comments and for your time,
Hakan Karademir

 6.
I also use 1Ds. I like&use zooms(24-70 f/2,8-70-200 f/2,8) but for the wideangle lenses -as a former Nikon user- Nikon's wide angle lens performances are much better. So in my opinion stick with L series primes. At least you would get top notch lens performance possible with Canon. When I was using Nikon bodies(f5, F6, D300) one of my friends who was using Canon bodies really liked the performance of my 20mm f/2,8 and decided to get a Canon 20mm f/2,8 but unfortunately he couldn't get what he hoped for.
7.
Hi Guys;
Anybody knows the best reliable third party battery producer-brand for Canon EOS digital bodies in terms of quality and durability? Original batteries of high-end EOS bodies are really expensive. One of my friend's company plans to purchase in huge volumes and he asked me for a favour for him to search about the issue.
If you have experiences with a specified battery brand on the long run, please share, will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance;
8.
Hi Folks;
Is there anybody who knows the maximum CF card capacity that can be used in Canon EOS 1Ds(Mark I) body. Currently I have the latest firmware for the body and I use 4 GB CF card with no problem. Can I use bigger cards like 32, 64 GB ones? Anybody using this body and the biggest CF card capacity as far as they know? And also I wonder if I would feel the speed difference of the newest card models (like "600x Extreme Pro" ones) -even- with this body. Is it worth to pay extra for these newest cards or are they only useful and much better to consider if you use newer bodies like Mark II&III which are faster and have newer Digic processors.

Thanks in advance for your help,
9.
Hi Folks;
I have serious dilemma about my equipment. For now, I use Canon EOS 1Ds(Mark 1) and Canon's two famous L brothers, 24-70 f/2,8L and 70-200 f/2,8L. I am suffering from chronic neck pain because of my years in office, with Laptop. I can define my self as perfectionist in photography since I do it as a serious amateur for 23 years. Because of that, Nikon D300's performance -especially red and yellow color performance- didn't satisfy my expectations and I upgraded to used Canon 1Ds body, with mint condition, at shutter counter of 34.000. It has magnificent and vibrant colors and satisfies my needs completely. See picture below and you will understand what I mean(By the way, your critiques and ratings are welcomed about it :) ). I really like the reliable body of 1Ds in the hands. But to tell you the truth I can not really stand the pain anymore on my neck, hanging on it with 2,5 kg weight at least(with1Ds+24-70 f/2,8, with 70-200 it is worse).Since I would never leave my "L brothers", I am considering to replace 1Ds with EOS 7D. I am not really interested in head to head comparisons regarding mumbers. Ok I know, 7D is not a full frame camera but has nearly twice more pixels, full HD video recording, dual Digic 4 processors and 8 fps machine gun. But the real issue I need your advice about is, the usage and performance of the body. In the same price range do you think 7D will satisfy my expectations about performance by being a lighter body than 1Ds. If you have an experience with both of these two bodies and if you share it with me, that would be great, I would appreciate that. So what do you advise: Replace 1DS with 7D and enter the world of newest and the lighter bodies of Canon or make another appointment with my physiotherapist for this autumn and stick with the old but reliable friend.
Thanks for your time;
10.
Dear All;
As a Canon EOS 1Ds+24-70 2,8 L user -you would know- it is impossible for me to carry my camera everyday with me. I am considering a camera with which I can go out easily without worrying about image quality and controls. I really think about Canon Powershot G11. Which camera do you use to carry in your small bag for everyday use instead of your bulky pro-camera, or do you have any alternative in mind. Do you have any experience with G11?

THANKS IN ADVANCE,
11.
Dear All;
I am planning a trip to Munich by the last week of the month. As far as I know, Germany is a good place for second hand equipments till I bought a good Leica body and Nikon Flash 3 years ago. It was just by the chance from a photoshop near my hotel.
Is there anybody from/who knows Munich for second hand Canon lenses. Which shops would have the biggest Canon used lens/equipment stock? If you do know please share the adress with me.
I would be thankful to German folks if they would help me about the issue- as a former Siemens employee who could never find time for this kind of shopping during my business trips to Munich.
12.
Tim I use both Canon EOS and Leica system. I use Canon EOS 1Ds and Leica M6 TTL.The best zoom lens to go for Canon EOS 5D MarkII is 24-70 F/2,8L. But for ultrawide range -as a previous Nikon system user- even Nikon's ultrawide lenses are far much better, especially if you consider it with Leica summicron or summilux wides.
For your 5D MarkII If I were you, I would consider Tokina AT-X 16-28mm f/2,8 Pro FX-which will be on the shelves by autumn. Or you can think about Zeiss Distagon T* 18mm f/3,5 ZE. It is a perfect ultrawide companion for Pros.
Goodluck with your choice.
13.
Hi Friends;
I have just purchased a Canon EOS 1Ds from E-bay in a brilliant condition. Everything is perfect, and nothing is missing even original box except "solution disk" CD. Anybody knows where I can download full content of the CD given in the original selling package? As a forner Nikon user I do not have any idea about Canon software versions, if newer ones are suitable for my 1Ds or not. I searched the web but couldn't find a free link for full content.
Your help would be appriciated.

 14.
Hi Friends,
I use film camera(Leica M6 .85) for my hobby and digital SLR(Nikon D300) for documentation. I would like to ask your opinion about Voigtlander 21mm P for my Leica M6 .85. I really like ultrawideangle photography-especially in b&w. I am considering to replace my Nikon D300 with M8 and use my other purchased lenses (50 and 90mm summarits-6 bit coded) with it. I loved the feeling of M6 and its quiteness. Hoping to catch the same joy with digital. I used to have 20mm f/2,8 of Nikon, it was very satisfying. What do you think, is 21mm skopar f/4 P a really good lens to spend on. I can not afford Leica versions because of the sets'(21mm viewfinder+lens+hood) huge costs. Second question, can I also use it on M8? I am also considering to get a 21mm voigtlander viewfinder for my M6 with the lens, no problem with that but how will I manage it with M8? As you know, it is not full frame.. How will I assume the distance?
Thnx in advance,
15.
Hi;
What is your choice about M and R system lenses. Which product line do you think performs best in street photography. Do they differ in terms of glass quality and construction; for example 35 mm aspheric summicron M or R. Why R system lenses are cheaper than M ones? Is it because of the quality or marketing strategy? Would you consider a R6.2, R7 with 35 mm summicron or M6, M7 with 35 mm summicron?
Hakan

 16.
Jeff, thank you for advice about patient shopping on Leica M Lenses. I am still trying my chance on E-bay but it is really hard to find a lens in good condition with a reasonable price.
John, your advice about Tessar formula was really intresting and helpful. I haven't heard that, I will certainly consider that.
Tim my budget is around 500-600 USD. Yes I am considering to buy used lens but only in good condition. Because I would like to keep the chance to trade it if I needed to(for a better lens in the future)

 17.
Dear Friends;
I need an other lens which will accompany my 50mm summicron. But I have a limited budget after purchasing a new M6 TTL and 50mm 'cron. So I need your advice for cheaper and high quality option for 35mm 'cron. I think speed will not a problem for me. I can also consider summarit but I don't have any idea about its results and performance. I couldn't find any feedback anywhere. Is it as good as its 'cron brother? I am also considering Voigtlander and Zeiss options(all of them 1,2, 2, 2,5 2,8 versions). If you have any experince about these third party 35mm products for Leica M, please share with me. I am especially wondering these products' performance at different apertures(wide open/close). Which is the best alternative and the best buy in overall performance- as I said, quaility is my priority not speed-certainly in a limited budget.

Thanks in advance
Diger beylerin tersine sorunuzun dijital yada film makina konusuyla alakali olmadigini daha genel olarak kompleks sistem kullanmakla ve beklenen verimi alamamakla alakali oldugunu dusunuyorum. Size katiliyorum. Ben fotograf cekmeye 25 sene once Zenit 12 XP ile baslayip Canon EOS 1000FN, Canon EOS 10, Nikon FM2, Nikon F90X, Nikon F100, Nikon F6 ve Nikon D300 ile devam ettim. Dijitale gectigim icin hic memnun olmadim. Durst agrandizorumun tozunu alip eski yerine yerlestirecegim. Kafam daha rahat ve fotografcilikla ilgili ayni disiplin ve secicilikle cekmeye devam edecegimi umuyorum. Size de bu kaliteli "oyuncagi"(L E I C A M Sistemini ) siddetle tavsiye ediyorum.
Ben Leica M serisini ozellikle insanlari uyandirmadan candid cekimler icin istiyorum. Seneler once bir fuarda elime aldıgim ilk Leica M body nin deklansorunun sesizligini duyunca inanamamistim.

 20.
Friends, thanks for your comments.
Even I got several different answers they were all fruitfull thoughts, I really appreciate for that. They were really helpful and made me think again about my final choice. I have only one further point to take your advise:
Do you know any other sources like www.photodo.com and what is your opinion about this site's test results based on MTF graphics, do they confirm your experiences about 50 and 35 mm leica range. Especially are you agree the highest score which is given to 50 mm summicron lens?
Leica lens test page:
http://www.photodo.com/products.html?manuid=11&name=Leica
Thanks again for your attention.
Hakan

 21.
Dear Friends;
I am in photography nearly for 25 years, Still amateur becasuse I just do it for my joy -not for professional reasons. Previously I used Nikon FM2, F100, F6, D300 with high quality Nikon lenses. After moving to digital, I am not satisfied with the results. I always have to sit in front of the computer for handling of the pictures I've taken. I never get the results I have waited for. Also with digital, I lost the feeling that really makes me happy when I was shooting with film. I discovered that I also loose my patience and dicipline during digital shooting. I was much more happy with my F6 and Velvia. But it is too late, I have sold my F6 and I am planning to move leica M system. Exactly I "moved" to Leica M system. Last week I grabbed my first -nearly mint- M6 body from e-bay-like new, in box for 1425 USD. For a while, I will keep D300 body and Nikkor lenses. During this period I would like to get best results from Leica M and consider totally replacing my Nikon kit with Leica M one. For a start, I will purchase my first Leica lens. As far as I follow up forums, 50 mm summicron and 35 summicron lenses are favourite ones for most of the people. Considering I still keep my 80-200 f/2,8D ED and 24-70 f/2,8 I will use my Leica for wide angle and 50 mm photography. So what is your advice for my first Leica lens. Do I have to insist on aspherical ones? Are the current ones best to go or would you prefer previous alternatives as better choices... like legendary "Best of Bokeh" etc.
Thanks for your attention, cheers
Hakan
