1. Hello All,

I am pleased to inform you all of my recent purchase of the Tamron 28-

75 XR DI LD Macro Lens for $389.99

If you are battling between which lens to get... Here's an eye

    opener...

These are reviews available using Adobe Acrobat

Canon 24-70mm f/2.8L USM AF

The Canon lens is awesome for someone who's got money to spend...

however, its only about 5% to 10% better in optical quality than the

Tamron. True that it's an "L" series lens, but does "L" really

deserve the extra $800.00? That question is up to your wallet, or

your bank - the wife if you are married.

I heard talks about Tamron discontinuing it's amazing 28-75 lens

because of high demand and low price. You've heard the talks about

the 28-75 lens. I would recommend the 24-75 lens only if you need

the extra 4 mm. If not.. By all means, Tamron is your next bet

because the price is unbeatable, and the quality is very similar to

the 24-70 f2.8 L series Lens by Canon.

However since this is a Forum, your comments and interpretations of

the lenses are welcome. Which lens would you rather buy?

  2. Hello all,

B&H has been telling me that they dont have the 24-70 L in

store, but that they can ship it to my adress.

My question for all of you is...

Is the canon 24-70 f2.8 L a lens worthy of possession?, or... am I

WAY better off going the route of carrying really fast primes?

In one of the web sites I found the comparison of the Canon 24-70 L

lens to the Canon 50mm f1.4 USM lens and the 50mm was better in

    quality and sharpness.

Zooms are a luxury, while primes are a pain in the rear. Is it worth

buying a zoom? If any of you do wedding photography... What type of

lenses do you possess and have you ever performed quality comparison

    in between your lenses?

If yes, what were the results?

Your comments and

answers are greatly appreciated and I am sure that it would help many

of the new inexperienced ones like myself.

Thank you all.
Jake.

  3. I have 2 questions for you Jim...

1) How can you be so sure of the type of lens Canon is going to release into the market?

2) Is the lens going to be released into the consumer market right after the announcement?

The IS might come in handy in hand-held situations, however a larget aperture can stop motion of the subject, while the IS can't. In that aspect, a camera with a wider aperture would b more feasible.
  4. Well... someone??? Anyone???

It would be greatly appreciated if someone gave their input on how they feel about the Tamron 28-70 f2.8 lens, or the Canon 24-70 L lens.

What I am trying to determine is... are they both really so close that one cant tell the difference? except for the auto-focus noise?

Thank you all in advance for your input :-)

  5. Hello,

I've decided to get the Canon 24-70 L f2.8 after a lot of soul-

searching. I figured I should get that so as to avoid having any

focussing issues, or other issues. I decided not to get the Tamron

because if I have problems, Tamron can assign the blame of the

    malfunction to canon and vice-versa.
Now, the question of the day... who has had both the Canon 24-70 L

    and tamron 28-75 f2.8.
According to my knowledge, things that cost cheap arent built with

quality in mind, but with cutting corners. This that are expensive

are built usually with the principle of quality in mind.
I am sure many have had excellent experiences with Tamron 28-75 f2.8.

But can someone tell me that putting the Tamron next to a Canon,

you'll be able to see little or no difference?

The review of the Tamron at the following page:

Bob Atkin's Tamron SP AF28-75/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro

Review shows a comparison of the Tamron 28-75 f2.8 with the Canon

EF28-135/3.5-5.6 IS USM. According to the article, the Tamron SP AF28-

75/2.8 XR Di LD Aspherical (IF) Macro and the Canon 50mm f1.8 are

better performers than the Canon EF28-135/3.5-5.6 IS USM.
However, here's my opinion that I developed as I was about to buy

it... The Tamron 28-75 f2.8 falls in between a Canon 28-135 and a

    Canon 24-70 L 2.8L.
I would like to know... what has been your

experience with the Canon 24-70 L, and how does it compare with any

of the other Canon's similar range in mm,(for example the Canon 28-

105 mm, or the Canon 28-135 mm lenses), cheaper lens?

  6. Hello, I am currently the owner of a Digital rebel XT and in the

future intend to upgrade to a 20D. I brought the XT so that I can

develop my skills as a photographer since I am new to the field.
At the same time, I regret that I brought the XT instead of the

20D since I keep seeing that most wedding pro's use the 20D.
Can I use the DRXT as a wedding photography camera? or is it

completely unfeasable for me to use it?
Next on the agenda... I am out lens hunting to upgrade my kit

lens of 18-55 mm. What lens would be recomended as a really good all-

rounder wedding lens. My budget can extend to $1500 and I would like

something that's of awesome quality. At the same time I dont want to

be too confined in the wide-angle department. I can buy more than one

    lens if I have to.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Jake The Snake

  7. Hello,

Recently I purchased a Digital Rebel XT and I have the exact same problem with it. I used a 50mm f1.4 lens and encountered the same problem. I shot several photos which seemed in-focus while seeing through the viewfinder. But, when I blow up the picture, it seems that the focus was always off. I will be getting a new 24-70 L and if I continue to have the same problem, I will be contacting the manufacturer.
