1.
The 70-300mm VR is not a DX lens. This being said, Im pretty sure it will not work in aperture priority mode or have working VR with the N70. The N70 does not have the ability to adjust aperture. It needs a non-G lens with a aperture ring. Also, it predates VR lenses. It is fully compatible with the F100 though.

 2.
Since many TC's actually protrude into the lens that they are being attached to, you would probably damage the TC and the 35mm lens if you tried attaching them together. Long telephotos generally have lots of distance between the mounting ring and the rear glass element so the TC can easily be attached without the glass from each piece coming in contact with each other. On shorter telephotos and wide angle lenses the rear glass element is nearly flush with the mounting ring.

 3.
My son and I both have intuos 4 mediums. We love them. I use mine for photo editing and he uses his for drawing. I got both of them from B&H for about $310. I really like the size of the medium, seems almost perfect for a 21-24" monitor. Plus its doesnt take a lot of desk space. I also like the feel of the pen and the option of the mouse. The abiltiy to customize the buttons on the pen and the tablet is great.

 4.
Jon, you cant find that info on the D90, you need an external program like opanda exif to do it. Or if you are using a mac you can get it from preview.

 5.
I have 2 epson printers. A 2880 and a 4880. I had been using a HP 8750 for years before I made the switch. One of my main reasons for switching was there always seemed to be more information, drivers, books, and paper companies that were supporting the epson printers before any of the other manufacturers.

I have been very happy with both of my Epsons. Since the 4880 does not work with prints under 8x10 sized paper, and it does not print borderless on sheet paper, I bought the 2880 to do this when needed. The 4880 is a beast. Big and heavy, and designed for professional work with a high duty cycle. The cartridges are enormous, and expensive, but last forever. They are actually way more economical then any of the small cartridge printers. Set of 8 110ml cartridges are $375 vs $110 for 8 11ml cartridges on the 2880.

The 2880 is a really great little printer. Has many of the features of the big boys in a small package. Ink costs are higher than the 3880 and 4880, but is great for someone that doesnt do a lot of printing. Print quality is first rate. If you buy ink in sets of 8 the costs can be a little better than buying individually. I always keep a spare set on hand. Like the 4880 it takes roll paper which is way cheaper than sheet paper, and gives you the ability to make up your own sizes. If you cut your own matte's, then sky's the limit.

 6.
I let my son use my D70 after I upgraded to a D200 back in 2006. He was 10 at the time. I only let him use it when he was with me.

When he was 11 I got him a Canon A620 IS P&S that offered all the manual controls in a small package, plus it wasnt too expensive, so if it got lost or damaged it wasnt the end of the world. He used it for a year and a half and learned a lot.

At 13 I picked up a new D80 right before Nikon stopped making them and got it nice and cheap. 2 years later he still uses it. I wanted to start him slow to see what his interest was, and I wanted to see how well he could take care of things that are so fragile.

I think starting them with something simple will make photography fun. Let them build up to the more advanced stuff.

 7.
I personally use the Z series. Im not using full frame, but I do use them on a 17-55mm DX lens all the time. No vignetting issues at all. I like the Z series because the filters are 4 x 6 inches (100mm x 150mm) which is also the same size as Lee filters, who actually make glass filters although they are expensive.

 8.
John,

Thanks, this is exactly what I was looking for. I know going used is a viable route, and I will definitely let her look at KEH. But I wanted the option of something new that she could go look at. She's a little apprehensive about used, especially something online that cant be viewed first.

The funny thing is that I looked at this camera on dpreview.com. They listed it as not having AP or SP modes in its spec list.

And thanks for the price tips. I actually found it on the Staples site, and they have it in stock at store near where she lives.

 9.
Hey guys,

A friend of mine has a daughter taking digital photography class. She needs a camera with manual controls, or at least aperture priority and shutter priority controls. The only thing I can come up with is a Canon SX120 IS. Its going for $199 right now and would seem to fit the bill. However, I'm wondering if there is something else out there that might also fit the bill.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

 10.
In NY there is a store dedicated to lomography. Its on W 8th st near NYU. They carry basically every lomo camera out there (Diana's, Holga's, Pinholes, Russian, fisheye). They have thousands of photos plastered all over the walls sort of like a gallery. Really a neat place.

 11.
Marten,

iPhoto - while its a nice program for the average person who takes some snap shots of their daughters birthday, I would say its not something a serious photographer is going to use. Lightroom, Aperture, PS or NX2 are going to be more approiate.

ProShow Gold - sorry Ive never used it.

Spyder - I would say this is a must have especially if you make a lot of adjustments and/or printing.

 12.
I bought some stuff from them years ago with no problems. Delivery was a little slow, but not terrible.

These guys were originally in Florida, but moved to Michigan 3 or 4 years ago.

I think when they were in Florida they actually had a store, or at least an office. I think it might just be someone working out of their garage now.
