Thanks folks! This was more of an accident that I liked than anything ... crouching down, searching for a unique view.. guess I didn't set before I clicked. Somehow, it looks better than the 'proper' images - and I'm still thinking on that one. Mike - thanks for that color observation.. I knew it had something soft about it, didn't know what. Shooting in the desert can be challenging, sunrise and sunset are by far the best times (meaning you get very little sleep). DC - thanks for the advice on the highlights. I need to start exposing for those then pull out the lowlights in post. A little more work but worth it. Gb

It does have some mystic. But I'm wondering if it would have been a more effective image if it were shot landscape, showing the isolated stairs in the middle of a forest?

Just a photo of a painting 🙂 Are we to evaluate the reproduction, or the painting itself? If the former it's a nice desert scene, though it might lack a true subject. As a reproduction, as stated it is a bit soft. But as a memory not bad at all.

This has merit as a photo subject, but the angle of the image is not creative. I think you might have (and still can via a crop) zoom in on the circular part and lock. The image's contrast is well done overall.

A really nice green there. I'm drawn more to the further away portion of the image than the bottom up close part. I like how it fades out. gb

Derrick - Welcome back to photography. I really like the human elements in most every one of the shots! Good facial expressions especially. As far as critique, when looking at them, in nearly every one I said to myself I wish he had zoomed in a bit on the persons face, for that's what the image is about. I like the context, but I think I would really like the images more if they better highlighted the expressions. I would also consider blurring the background in some of them, i.e., shooting with small f-stop. If the images are large resolution, you may want to try cropping in. Give it a shot! gb

Hmm. It has some good elements. Try cropping in so that the child is bigger in the frame. and where you can't see the ends of the overhead structures. That might make it more abstract. gb

I don't think you necessarily did anything technically wrong Corona, but something to consider is whether this subject benefits from HDR. I actually prefer either of the first two shorter exposure images because they have more mystery. I think this one is sort of flat: HDR removes the contrast, but maybe that's not a benefit here. The subject is also unexciting. Try another HDR with a different subject backlit by sun, see what happens. Taking into the sun may require 5 or even 7 shots however. I prefer 1 f-stop separation between them. gb

Franz, sorry for the incorrect wording.. I would consider cropping the area just above the far (top) end of the puddle. Not sure what is up there, but think it would be a stronger image w/o it. -
A modern day trail through the Alabama Hills in Lone Pine, California. This was a major filming location for many a western movies, and several modern ones as well. Mount Whitney can be seen in the background. Note - I've dedicated this mage to the publ© All Rights Reserved

Powerful image. There's action here, energy. My only small complaint is that it's a bit symmetric, but many might feel that's a strength. Nice work. -
Nice smile, action, composition. Although a decent effort, though, it's obvious that the blur was added in post! Needs to be a little better in that regard. -
Nice bad. I might crop off the sidewalk to create an infinite look, but works quite well.

This one works for me in that the sky and land seem alive, and even though it's green still seems cool and potentially menacing. GB -

Certainly an eye-catching composition! I really like your choice of the top arching structure, which frames everything nicely. My only suggestion might be to up the contrast or vibrance a bit to give it a little more pop. Otherwise, very good. GB -

Hey, it is very good as is. It may be an example of a image that works WELL when not following the 'rules', e.g., not centering subjects. Don't sweat it at all (actually, has two golden ratios that work to its advantage). Nice work!
