  1. Giampi,

great photo with your 10D.Just the sort of lighting for portraits i wish to achieve.

I will look into the photek you mention. With regards to the economics, I can get the 550 off a friend of mine, it's been used twice! for only 150 pounds (maybe even less if I have his 75-300 USM IS as well, he wants 200 pounds for that. Think I will get them both for about 300 if I talk nice to him)

So I will get that, then later when i've got the pennies I will possibly get the ST E2 and can possibly use the 420 as a back light for highlights ect..

Have you used back lighting in this way? what are peoples views on this method?

    Regards Wayne.

P.S. have ordered a 24-70 f2.8 EX DG Macro and will be using this new lens for my work, along with cannon 50 prime, 85 prime (next purchase)

and possibly as mentioned above 75-300 USM IS. Views welcomed...

  2. Hi,I'm after some advice regarding as to get a ST E2 or a 550/580 EX

in order to trigger my 420 EX with stofen diffuser, which i wish to

mount on a tripod in order to get some better light on my wedding

    photography and portraits.

Economics lead me to think a 550 or 580 (i can get a second hand 550

cheaply from a friend)would be good.I am just concerned that having

light source on camera might get in the way of what i'm trying to

create with tripod mounted 420. I'm thinking though that i could

always bounce the 550/580 with a sto fen on that too.

    I've also thought about getting a ST E2 (?119) and another 420 (?129)

as you can see these 2 can be had for about the same as a new 580 (?265)

I think some sort of setup like this should make a good light-weight

setup for my wedding photography with my 350d/Sigma24-60 f2.8/50

    1.8/18-55mm

anyones thoughts and comments would be greatly apreaciated

    regards wayne.

  3. you really need to spend a lot of time learning post proccessing before atempting stuff like this. learn how to mask right, for a start.

i would concentrate on basic composition and 'people' skills first. this is in order to get them to relax.
