  1. I shoot with two 20D's. As I was testing the lighting before shooting

at an event today, I came upon something that troubled me. One of my

20D bodies, when shooting in Av priority, consistently selected a

faster shutter causing darker images. I took the same shot with the

same lens with the same settings (same ISO, same Av priority, etc.)

with my other body and the picture came out just fine.

Any ideas on why my other 20D body kept selecting a faster shutter?

I'm wondering if I need to turn this into Canon for repair. Thanks in

    advance everyone!

  2. Yeah, I just got back from WPPI yesterday. It was fun indeed. I didn't buy anything on the floor, but I certainly enjoyed listening to Denis Reggie talk about his use of lighting and high ISO shooting.
  3. My friend who owns a chain of jewelry stores is asking me to take some

product photography for him. He really likes the look that online

sites such as Tiffany's has with their seamless white backgrounds.

Other than using those domes/tents, what other equipment (types of

lighting, lenses, etc.) should I have? I'll rent whatever I need if I

    don't have it already. FYI, I shoot 20D and only have 50 1.4, 24-70

2.8, 70-200 2.8, and 10-22. Also, any insights would also be

    appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  4. DON'T DO IT!

Questions like this get posed all the time here. There are many sites that rate these resellers. Try http://www.resellerratings.com. Here's what they rate the vendors you've mentioned.

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the best, Genius Cameras is rated less than 0.17 while Best Price Cameras is rated 0.28 throughout their lifetime. They didn't even get a "1" rating!

Stick with your 300D, buy a used 20D roughly within your price range, or pay a little more for a legitimate 20D value.

    Good luck!

  5. Has anyone tried using Bonmatch's flush mount albums? I just heard

about them but am not aware of their quality. If I don't hear anything

negative about them, I'll probably go ahead and order a sample from

    them. Thanks in advance.

  6. If you'll be shooting a wedding, you may want to keep one flash as a backup. It may come in handy at events like weddings. If you have a second body, of course it would be appropriate for that as well. After the wedding, you may find that you don't need it depending on what you normally shoot.

I guess there's yet another option. You could sell the 420EX for a small profit and then just rent a flash for the wedding.

  7. I struggled over this for the past month or so and then decided on the Canon. Yes, it's $200 more, but I consistently read better reviews on the Canon over the Sigma. I think they are both great lenses but the Canon reviews I read made it worth $200 more. Besides, if I were to spread out the cost of this lens over the next year (I plan to use this lens for way more than a year), we're talking about like 50 cents a day more. Stupid reasoning perhaps but I'm happy with my Canon.
  8. I'm pretty new myself, but I've shot with the 580EX on several occasions at weddings. I usually shoot at 400ISO, f/4, and shutter at around 1/100. I also use the LS2PJ. The only difference between my set up and yours may be that I use the 17-40L and the 28-70L. The 17-40 should be fine but I have no experience with the 28-135.

    Have fun shooting!

  9. I will be purchasing a 17-40 or a 10-22 in the next few days. I

shoot mostly weddings, social events, and my 1-yr old baby. I

currently have a Rebel XT and will be using it as my back-up in 3-4

months when I buy my next body (a 20D or the rumored 20D

    replacement). My lens line up is 50mm 1.8, 28-70mm 2.8, 70-200mm

    2.8.

So for all you wedding photographers, which lens do you see as being

more useful? Which do you have/use?

Thank you in advance for reading/responding.

  10. My wife has a Christmas party coming up in a few weeks at her work.

Since they know I really enjoy photography, they've asked if I could

take pictures at the function which is to be held in a local night

club. There will be dancing, drinking, and light snacks. Any

suggestions on what things I should take into consideration with

regard to types of shots, lighting (or the lack thereof), etc.?

    For reference sake, I use a Rebel XT w/grip, 580EX, Lightsphere, 50

    f/1.8, 28-70 f/2.8, and a 70-200 f/2.8. Thanks in advance.

  11. Mark, that's an absolutely fantastic perspective. As I have started 4 months ago into the world of dSLR, I did the same things, and perhaps still do from time to time. I appreciate the extreme patience displayed by many of more experienced members as they shared their insight, experiences, and ability to better search the net for answers than I.

I do understand the frustration that some advanced members here feel when seeing the same basic question posted for the umpteenth time. It would be nice if the frustrated population just passed over it while a few others may choose to answer the question.

This has been and continues to be a place I can feel comfortable asking 'dumb' and 'elementary' questions to people more advanced than I. Thanks folks. As Yakim would put it, 'happy shooting.'

  12. Andrei,

If you're thinking about getting a 70-200 f/4 for your 350D, don't even worry about it. The f/4 version is lighter and slightly smaller than the f/2.8 version. I've even tried the f/2.8 version on the 350D with no problem as long as you support the lens with your left hand or monopod/tripod. You'll enjoy the lens.

  13. I'm about to purchase some of Gary Fong's software to create wedding

collages and wedding albums. Can anyone tell me where I would get

these printed the way I would lay it out with the software? Can any

print shop handle this? Remedial question perhaps but I'm new to

    wedding albums. Thanks!
