  1. Lucien, if there is ever a never for me that never is...never give your "bad" photos, ever. No matter how many friends you might loose over it. I have done "gift" shoots for friends and only let them see and have the ones I chose, period. It is true that others might see something in a photo that you may not like, but stay true to yourself and artistic vision. And second what nerve they have, if you gave them a regular present would they fight with you because that is all you gave them...They should be thankful to get such a valuable and personal gift, especially that bride. Call your own shots with freebies and gifts, and just tell friends hey you see what I want you to see and that is it. I have been in this very same situation too.
  2. Thanks Anne, some great suggestions here on the free websites. This is "The Wedding Capitol" at least bills itself as that and there ARE a ton of chapels and I am going to visit them tomorrow. I love the idea of going on the strip and grabbing some PJ shots! I think the real truth is I have to put myself out there, thanks.
  3. Being in a similar position to you, I would do this. I think it is great and would love this experience! These people seem really honest, clear and upfront about their intentions. Everything is not about money...but it is about reputation. My only caution is be careful that this is not going to be a no win situation, problems with the other photographer and whatever else. I would get everything on the up and up with this guy regarding your contract which he seems to be putting off, and I would really be clear with the first photographer. How exciting! Jaimie
  4. I just do not know how to market myself without a website. I recently showed my book to a Wedding Photography teacher at the college, who saw how it could be translated to weddings exclaiming that "brides would love my work," I just do not know how to get my first break. My strongest factor is composition, and I can shoot fast and under pressure, (advertising) but my area of least expertise is flash, and no experience in weddings. So where to start, any of you guys live in Las Vegas, seriously?
  5. Having been in photography for 20 years, sometimes making a living

with it in advertising and portrait work, but mostly giving it

away...I recently decided I wanted to shoot Weddings. By sheer luck I

found this forum and cannot convey adequately enough that this forum

has given me hope, inspiration, and downright fits of laughter. Some

of the arguements and disagreements are truly the best moments here

and I feel like a I have learned facts, nuances, opinions,

experiences, etc...but it is true until I shoot a wedding all the

reading and real life experiences from pros will not further my

career. However, in moments of my own discouragement often late at

night I tune into this forum and feel like I have a chance to do this.

I have read every post, past and present available and I want to say,

though it may get tiresome answering the same questions from people

new to this like me, just know that you are really helping someone

out there, and maybe helping them tremendously.

    Thanks, Jaimie

  6. Copyright belongs to the photographer as long as the photographer does not sign anything relingquishing those rights, and goes something like this...."as soon as the shutter clicks...." copyright belongs to the photographer. Even when your photographs are purchased you still own the copyright, the client owns, "the right to use the photo," but you own the copyright unless you sign that right away.
