  1. This one caught my eye on a recent critique request from another one of your images which didn't quite grab me the same as this one. I was compelled to post a reponse just from the small thumbnail on that page.

    Love that fog diffused lighting.

Geez! Wish I could get that on a calendar. I'ld never turn the turn the page to the next month.

    Nice work, Elke!

Nice control on saturation and color definition on the petals. Really smooth. Like the dispersion pattern of the tulips created by the crop and composition. Good use of negative space.

I feel the signature is too distracting. It'ld be nice if it was half the size and made light and transparent.

    Beautiful shot.

  2. Hey, Mario.

Since this is one of the better surfer scenes I've come across, ever thought of rendering it in duotone using a light aqua and deep blue in subdued/desaturated natural looking tones with off white highlites similar to your other images? Just an idea.

I saw the rest of your images and I've got to tell ya', you've got a gift for the "Less is More" way of seeing things. Really nice moody stuff.

  3. What can I say? It's perfect. I'ld put it up on my wall poster size. It's memorable and striking in its simplicity.

Is that a watermark where it says 2008 or a design element? I just noticed it after looking at it more carefully.

  4. This grabbed my eye even as it was downloading. Bravo, Luis.

Composition, placement and transition of blacks and subject's pose and attitude makes this a memorable shot IMO.

    Nice work.

Like the colors you've chosen for the duotone effect. Consistant color transition with no hotspots. The nice controlled upward fade gives an interesting overall pop art feel.

    Nice job.

However, I can't tell if that's a shot of someone's rear end or a hand over two knees. I guess that's what makes it so interestingly odd and organic.

I do take slight issue with some posterization transitioning from the shadows into the midtones just below and to the left of the pinky finger.

The oversaturated appearance may be due to the small size of the jpeg. If this was to print 20x30 you'ld want to keep the saturation level as it is.

A fantastic image and I don't say that lightly because I don't do too many critiques because of a personal decision I made going back to my art institute days decades ago.

Looking at the rest of your gallery you show a level of consistancy that is quite hard to achieve as a single body of work. This is a very merchandiseable image as is the rest of your gallery.

My only small issue I have with your work in general including this image is that every element from the foreground to the horizon seems to have the same level of sharpness applied which tends to flatten the perception of depth in landscapes. Our eyes don't see that way. The eye also tends to see foregound with more contrast and vibrance with a gradual diminishing of this as elements recede to the horizon.

The colors and the composition makes this image pop. If nature didn't come up with these color hue combinations then you, Chip, as a post processor have a great eye for color design.

    Great work.
