My decision also based on an intention to use the kit lens as the primary lens on the DSLR, with my AiS lense as extra. I can use them at times that allow my 'slow' manual exposure.

Thank you guys for the advices. There seems to have very different views: down to D40 or up to 2nd handed D200.
I did go out and had a try on the D200 - it is certainly another class compare to D80, but as heavy as the F100 I used to own. After some considerations, I will go get a D40/D40x/D60 (depend on the prices after D60 is out later this month!). A light weight camera is still the first choice for me: 1) I don't think I will give up my film camera when travel (either my Nikon FM or Leica M), i.e. a D200 to accompany with my film camera would be too heavy; 2) I only have a tripod for light weight camera + lens; 3) my wife can use the D40.
D200 or higher versions could be consider later, when I feel like switching to digital entirely...
Thank you all again.

I am using Nikon FX SLR with a series of AiS lenses (28/50/105) and planning to
get a DSLR.
I understand D200 or D300 (or higher grade models) can meter with my AiS lenses
but they are too heavy for my purposes. Plus I don't want to spend that much
in digital.
I tried my friend's D40 and found it nice and compact. When I put on my AiS
lens, I have to do trials on exposures. The kit lens is nice too but still I
would like to use prime lens.
My questions:
1) Can some of the D40/D40X/D80 users share the experiences in using non-CPU
lenses on the camera?
2) Sure many Nikon film camera users had experienced similar situation of mine
here. What did you choose?

I use a CLE version 40mm with my M6 classic. To me the 35mm frameline seems perfectly matching the lens at infinity and normal distance, only at close up distance I would use the 50mm frame. On the other hand I noticed the 50mm summicron I used to own would take more than that in the 50mm frameline of my M6 - which was quite annoying to me, and it was one of the main reason I let the lens go.
At the moment I only have the 40mm and a CV 28/3.5. Leitz lenses are tempting, but I really can't find a good reason for myself to spend that much on it... at least for now.

Does anyone has experience in developing the Chinese SHD 100 in T-max dev?
Couldn't find such data in the digitaltruth page.
Thank you.
-
It looks like an effect due to lens filter. Did you have a UV or protection filter on? You have got to take it off for night shots.
-
I agree to use the filter for protection, but make sure you take it off when shooting skylight etc. at night
-
I use t-max dev on HP5 and Neopan. I tried the times by taking the guidelines from the digitaltruth web site. I use 1+4 at 20 degree, or 1+9 at 24 degree... I found the former is a bit difficult to control in the summer, but the 1+9 seems not strong enough for highlights...
May I ask the experience of the aboves that how should I start with the 1+5 solution at 24 degree? Cause I have no idea how to estimate time against the dilution. Thank you.

M6 and the 40/2, and I did.

Must be M6, or any other Leica M bodies. Buy one and you will never look back.

Hey, I don't think you need to pay much more for 2nd handed AI/AIS than the E series, so for durability and assurance of optical performance (E are nice, but I am not sure about the 135), get the AI/AIS. I also suggest you try couple them to your main camera body to feel the balance.
-
Naturally we see things with both eyes, and only the things focused in the centre are clear. It just happens that the 40-50mm focal lengths for 135 film are close to what we saw.
-
I agree with Richard, that your 50mm would only give you little return. Keeping it and just sell the 28mm might be a good idea. 50mm primes are just cheap but the optical performance wouldn't disappoint you.
I am happy with my 28/2.8 AIS, 45/2.8P, 50/1.4 AIS, and 105/2.5 AIS
I considered to sell the 50mm when I bought the 45mm for its size and weight, but then I decided to keep as it doesn't worth much in the 2nd handed market.
-
If you are not keeping your 50mm, you will probably need the 35mm.
-
Shouldn't be limited by a frame. Just cut the unwanted part for the best.
-
I use FM3a and Leica M6. Will keep using them. I only have AIS primes for my Nikon. Recently equiped a F100, and considering what AF lens should I get. I think the compact mid range zoom AFS 24-85 would suit my purposes.
-
Any focusing screen with split image would fits F100?
Thanks.

My AIS 105/2.5 produces great results. I heard that the E series 100mm is nice lens too, and it is lighter for for carrying around.
You may also consider a AI 85/2.
