1.
I am amazed at the direction that this thread has taken. These are Michael's cameras and his cards, and he is entitled to take as many photographs as he wants, at whatever event...If anyone else takes less photos, it is ok too....I would be more interested in hearing discussion about whether the D300 are good cameras, how the two bodies work together, do they have backup card slots etc...

  2.
Kerry,
My Mac (laptop) never seemed to have read the CF card in my D700, even when I am using the cable (the card does not pop up on the desk top). but all the applications like iPhoto, Aperture and Graphic Converters all read the card OK and can download the pictures, as soon as I plug the camera in, is this the case with you?

Rene,
I am sorry for your loss. One of the saddest things about dogs. as one of my older friends say, is that they don't live long enough and we will have to undergo many losses in one human's life time. Our last lovely white bull terrier died four years ago it is still painful for me to think about it..
Enclosed is a photograph of our current dog Rhory taken on film with the F100 and the 20 mm F2.8 lens

  5.
I use both Mac OSX and PC (XP) on my Macbook Pro. I prefer the Mac operating system by a very long margin. All my photographic stuff is done on the Mac side.... I also use Nikon (mostly) but I don't particularly care if people use PC or Canon...I don't understand people who slag off others' choices. I certainly did not invent the Mac operating system or the Nikon camera. That I made a personal decision to choose them or how much I paid for them does not say anything about me more than what kind of tea I drink and how much I paid for it.
Anyhow computers and cameras are tools....Do not let your tools become your masters....(Confucius said)...Let the photos speak!

  6. To me digital is just "reusable film already scanned" if you like. It is greatly convenient but not superior. Convenience is

what drive most people into digital. After a year or two, getting busy and overworked you might want to switch to digital too

but at least you will be in a better financial situation. After all, all your lenses that you had for the F5 will still work perfectly

well with a D3. I have an F5 but have only manage to hold a D3 in the shop once. I would been willing to bet that they both

handle and feel with the same beauty and precision. Yes I would love a foray into larger formats too. Enjoy your rekindled

passion. From a fellow Australian and F5 owner.

  7. Kristian, You need to beware that if you buy a new computer from an Apple store or one of its reseller, installing your own

memory may void the warranty unless you are very friendly with the guy who owns the shop. If you buy a secondhand one

there may not be such issue.

I think you have mad the right decision to get the iMac. The Mac monitor have always been very good with few

exceptions. As you said it will be an amazing and rewarding experience. You can make your Intel Mac run your favourite

Windows versions anyhow. My wife got a Intel Mac laptop with view to run PC programmes now and then. She NEVER

had to do it as there have been virtually no need. Have fun. Take lots of photos...Kind regards,

  8. Stephen, you have all you need and it is not necessary to buy anymore hardware and

software. Toast is better than apple's software. I use toast to burn backups just click new

cd under data, then drag the folders containing the pictures into it then click burn.

Same method can be used for burning pictures for your friends making sure you use the

toast setting that is hydrid CD (should be available in Toast window). Also, burn the whole

disk, not in sessions (do not partition your CD) when Toast asks you. While macs can read

multi-session disks, my PC friends don't always seem to read more than the first volume

    Cheers, Hung Nguyen
