my thoughts are:
1) a calibrated monitor is always better then a non-calibrated monitor
2) a better monitor will always be better than a less better monitor (am i speaking english..? he he)
But, I would recommend getting hardware calibrator, and save the money for another monitor sometime in the future..

Hey..
I currently using 1Ds Mark3 couple with WFT-E2 and di-gps receiver.
It works very well. In fact the di-gps receiver is quite sensitive.
One of these days, i'll do a write up on this! What i love abt geotagging is that, once you load it to aperture, with couple of clicks, you would be able to view it on world map!

Yah.. I am also using it.
Wonder what are the new "goodies" that the new firmware will bring..
Google translation says that the new firmware will make the RAW handling faster.. hmm

That's a good idea, unless in the near future you thinking of getting the 16-35 mark II.
Those lenses are 82mm threads... (*gulp*)

one cannot get any dumber than this

Hmm... I am going ahead with the update.. anyway!
Hope all will be well..

If you are a Mac user, i would recommend Aperture.

I totally agree with Mark. The technology probably has advanced well enough such a way that
the image quality of the APS and the FF to be about the same.
I would move into FF for wide angle and APS for telephoto work... (though the underlying
megapixel maybe an issue)

It looks fine for me..
Some factors u might want to consider would be downsizing would cause image to be softer
if you don't use the right method.
Downsizing is preferably done by using "Bicubic Sharper" in photoshop.

Yeah, its kinda a difficult situation. Its get a bit more challenging when they start to group up and asking for a group photo. Perhaps one or two is fine.. but if all the time.. won't be too much of a documentary.
Perhaps if you start "adapting" to the environment, chill out at the place, till they get used to it... then start snapping.. some patience will help (which i am lacking... he he)..

I got this link from another forum in DPReview...

Its about testing photoshop performance on different type of CPUs.
This test also been discussed at another photo forum..

Looks clearly that by having dual core CPUs, some of the processing times in CS2 are halved. But really, that is if you work on really huge files..

I suppose that will be the case. For me at the moment, since upgrading to Aperture 3.0, which does not support Nik in 64-bit, I will perform the raw conversion in Aperture (sometimes Capture), and then open in Photoshop (which uses Nik plug-ins).
I am not particularly very sure whether Elements support Nik.
