The lens came in this afternoon. I took a couple of pics & had them processed & scanned @ a drugstore. I think this is a lens I will have to learn how to use. The colors seem ok but Im not sure about the out of focus parts. May need to plan pics better. I used my Sekinic 558 & Minolta X700.

Thanks for the detailed response Paul. I found a Minolta 100 3.5 with the adapter & correct hood. It looks like a clean copy & has a 15 day guarantee. Should be here in a week or two.

I am considering buying a lens in the 90 to 105mm range for a portrait/macro lens for my X-700 & XG-M. The 2 lensed I have researched are the Vivitar Series 1 90mm F2.5 and the Minolta 100mm macro F3.5. What are the differences between these 2 and also cost-vs-benefit of them. Thanks in advance for advice/opinion
Jim

The first thing that comes to mind is to check that the film speed dial on the back is set to 100 and the contacts are clean.

the manual says not to stack them

From the Sekonic L308S manual
"2-1 Cord Flash mode
This measuring methad is used to make sure
synchronization with flash units, or to measure
flash bulb by connecting Synchro cord."

"The luminous waveform of a flash bulb is gentle, so light will
not be sensed in auto reset cordless flash mode. Always use
the cord flash mode for measuring flash bulb light."

Yes it is a good diffuser for close range photos. I cobbled it together to see if this sort of diffuser gave me the look I was after before shelling out the $$$$ for the Gary Fong (pro looking) one. I did get the Fong thing but I like this contraption better. The following pic was made with the $1.29 "salad bowl".

Trouble is that my wife says I keep embarassing her with stuff like this.

Thanks Nick:
I sold mine because the exposures were hit or miss. I had some success using a hand held meter. The meter on mine "worked" but I never figured out how to set the exposure using the wheel on the front of the body. I just cranked the shutter speed, appeture & exposure wheel around until I could get the reading I needed. The slow speeds sounded pretty close but I had no way of knowing if the faster ones were. I did like the lens & when the exposure came out right it gave good results.

That is clear!
I'm not a street shooter. Just family & vacation photographs. But my take on this is that prints are probably the only way.
Future generations will be able to judge what is good or bad. Print what you think has a chance of being good & put them in the drawer until your heirs can go to the local art dealer. He/she will know what will sell. (history will tell)
