1. No, not anymore. They used to be very solid and reputable and I had been ordering from them for nearly 20 years. This month I ordered some items and nothing arrived. B&H claims they shipped the items to a place I haven't lived in several years -- they must have gotten that address from old orders, because I entered my correct current address when I placed the order. .

    Web No: 1049685611

We received your order via our web site. No one looked at the shipping address and certainly no one edited it. We use the information the customer provides to us and the order is processed from computer to computer with no human interaction except that products are removed from warehouse shelves and placed into shipping boxes. The ship-to address we used was the one we received from you.

During the order, before it was submitted you had the opportunity to review the order and make any necessary edits or corrections. When we received the order we replied via email with an order confirmation and asked again that you check the contents and contact us if any update was needed. The order was processed and the merchandise was shipped as the order was submitted to us.

  2. So here we are... I needed a new workstation for editing our work and found a great price on a late 2016 MacBook Pro and made the purchase. It arrived fairly quickly but the shipping box was in horrible shape. Something very heavy had obviously been on top of it at some point. I voiced my concern to the UPS driver who seemed almost embarrassed to even deliver it. This was a $1800 computer... The box was so damaged that one corner was slightly open and I could see inside. After noticing that the laptop was in a separate box (and in an Apple box inside that), I assumed the computer was fine and accepted the shipment. I was wrong. Thankfully B&H has a policy of allowing 2 days to report items damaged in transit.

Thank you for your orders and this feedback. We regret your dissatisfaction. It is apparent the package containing your laptop was damaged in transit by UPS. We are sorry for their careless handling. I see return authorization has already been emailed to you along with a pre-paid UPS return label for your convenience. As soon as the return is processed here we will issue, per your preference, a refund or send another of the same model computer.

For future reference, B&H closes at 1:00pm Fridays and is closed all day every Saturday.

  3. Why am I not staying logged in? Previously I could go for several days before having to log in. Now if I visit another site (without closing my browser) I have to log back in when I return to Photo.net.

Ditto. Very annoying, made more so because when I come here and then log in, I'm not brought back to the same forum.

  4. A glass filter would consist of a plastic foil cemented between two pieces of glass. I've seen round neutral grad filters, but not rectangular ones. It is possible, though, at reasonable cost.

According to our site, the Tiffen MFR # 44CGN9H 4 x 4" Hard Edge Graduated 0.9 ND Filter is made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass and grinding flat to a tolerance of 1/10,000th of an inch.

I'd worry about distortion with that solution. Close-up and telephone are not the same. No one wants to look like Jimmy Durante in a portrait.

  6.
For "boxy type Hasselblads," the filter size was determined by the lens you attached. once upon a time many Hassy lenses used Bay 50 or Bay 60 filters which often required adapter rings. The Hasselblad Telephoto 150mm f/4 CF Zeiss Sonnar T* Lens for 500 Series Cameras used Bay 50 filters.
The Xpan 35mm system (actually a rebranded Fuji TX) used 49mm or 58mm filters, depending on the lens.

  7.
You can use any brand softbox on any light source. To attach a softbox you either need a speedring whcih is designed to match your softbox to your light or you need a softbox like those made by Westcott which attach like an umbrella and do not require any speedring at all.

  8.
Canon USA has the habit of servicing grey market Canon gear the same way they service US-warranted gear provided the owner can provided a date store receipt. Canon USA won't service a Sigma or Tamron lens, but they will service a Canon lens.

Hoods improve contrast by shielding the lens from light outside the field of view. They also serve to protect the lens from physical damage.

+1
I use lens hoods ALL THE TIME, whenever possible. They protect the front element and reduce the chance of image-degrading flare.

    Canon Pro Platinum (PT-101)
Canon Pro Luster (LU-101)
Canon Plus Glossy II (PP-201)
Canon Plus Semi-gloss (SG-201)
Canon High Resolution Paper (HR-101N)
In addition to standard paper types.
A3 is a paper size: 11.7 x 16.5 in
A4 is 8.3 x 11.7 in
A5 is 5.8 x 8.3

  11.
While it's tempting to use the widest angle lens you have, it will distort the shapes of the heads of those at the edges of the groups in an unflattering way. Try to use a lens close to the "normal" focal length -- 50mm for a full-frame camera -- and back up if necessary. I understand if you're indoors you may have to compromise but the wider angle the lens, the more likely you are to get egg-shaped heads.
