  1. I heard alot about dead/hot pixel. I just purchased an EOS 5D and want to know

if my 5D is free of dead/hot pixels. Please show me how to find out if my 5D

has it and how many is a real problem . And what is the best resolution for the

problem if there is ?. Thank you very much for all the inputs. MERRY CHRISTMAS

and HAPPY NEW YEAR to all .

  2. I just bought an EOS 5D and I have an old 540EZ speedlight. I know that the

540EZ does not support E-TTL/II that means it is not (fully )compatible with

the 5D. My question is : can I use this flash in manual mode with the 5D and it

won't do any damage to the 5D .?

    Thanks for all yours inputs.

  3. I want to buy my first Canon IS lense ( 24-105 L F4 IS ). I could save about

$700 CDN if I buy it used. But I am a little bit scared because I do not know

what to look at, how to check the lense. There will be no guaranty on the

second-hand lense. $1,000 is the price they asked for and for me a thousand

bucks is BIG ! What you guys will do if you were me ? Buy a new one or a used one ?

    Thanks for all the advices.

  4. I just switch to digital ( EOS 5D ). I have an EOS 1V/HS in near mint condition

(only 103 rolls of films through it) + ES-E1 LINK software. Should I keep it

or Should I sell it ? I will be sad to se it go but I do not know if I will

    use it again. I need cash for another lense ( 24-70 /2.8 L OR 24-105 f4 IS

). How much is it worth now ?

    Thanks for all your opinions.

  5. Hi everybody,

Please help me to decide between the EOS-30 D and the EOS-5D.

I'm a hobbyist film shooter and will go digital. My actual gears are :

    EOS-1V/HS with Tamron 19-35mm, Tamron SP-90mm /2.8 Macro , EF 50mm/f.1,4,

    24-105 II, 70-200 F4 L and Flaslight 420EX. I will keep my EOS-1V.

I have enough money for the 30D NOW but have to wait for another 4 months

to save more money for the 5D.

I mostly shoot Portraits and Landscapes .

Does the 30D have more reach than the 5D with all my lenses and have the same

or almost the same picture quality of the 5D when blowned up to 11x14 ?

I have no plan to ( or can not ) change or up grade after the purchase.

It's very ,very hard to get the approuval from my Boss at home !

Thanks for all of your inputs.

  6. Hi Chris,

To find out how many rolls of film went through your EOS-1V, You turn the camera on, open the side door then push the M.Fn button until you see on the LCD the letter ID and 2 rows of numbers.

The top row has 3 digits : that is the number of rolls of film went through the camera. This number goes back to 000 after reaching 999. Therefore, it could be X(time ) 999 + actual number.

There is another ID with 2 row of numbers ( 4 digits on top, 2 below ) showing the date and year.

    Hope it's clear to you.

  7. Hi there,

Please help me decide between :

    - A 2 months old 24-105 F/4 IS and save $450 Cdn . How about the

warranty ? Is it transferable ? If it is worth buying and what to

look for when buying this lense beside taking sample pictures( I'm

still shooting film with the EOS-1V) . The seller claims that the

    lense has never been used.

    or:

    - Buy a brand new one . Peace of mind always cost more, I know,

    but for $450 Cdn ?

Thank you for all the inputs.

  8. After reading the anwser from Puppy Face about CF 17-2 on EOS 3, I

    have a question :

    - According to the Manual( Of the EOS 1V), CF 17-2 is for moving

objects; and according to Puppy Face, the CF17-2 helps focussing for

slow zooms. My question is if I use primes such as the 50mm F/1.4 ,

100mm F/2.8 and shoot non-moving objecjs most of the time, can I

still use the CF 17-2. Any advantage or disavantage ?

If I do not read the anwser from Puppy Face, It will take me

forever to figure this out !

    Thanks for your input.

  9. I got a new Canon 70-200 F4L lense few months ago. I have heard a lot

of praises about the sharpness., ect.... of this lense. To me , I'am

not very impressed with its sharpness very much compared to the

Canon 50mmF1.8 II or the Tamron SP 90mm F.2.8 Macro.Hope not because

of my big expectation ( my first L lense ever.)I'm using theses lenses

with my EOS-1V. I do not know what I have done wrong here. Camera

    shake ? My 70-200F4L ? Or my EOS 1 V ? I have seen somewhere ( in this

forum?) the test for the sharpness of a lense ( back or front

focussing problem...). Please show me how to test my lense or my

    camera or even... myself. Thanks.

  10. I recently bought a Sanyo Super Quick Charger - Model NC-MQHO1U ( for

AA+AAA Ni-MH battery). The Maintenance Instructions says that:...to

recharge batteries properly when they have not been used for a long

time, charge and then DISCHARGE the batteries 2 or 3 times before

using . Anyone who had done this before please show me how to

discharge the batteries ( By using them in a camera ? ... or else ?..)

    Thank you for your anwers.

  11. I'am new to Digital. I am considering to buy a entry level Canon

digital point+shoot camera. Please help me to choose between the Canon

    A-510 ( 3.2 MP, 4x optical zoom, SD/MMC memory, 2 AA batteries) and

the Canon A-85 ( 4MP, 3x Optical zoom, CF Memory,4 AA batteries). The

price of the A-85 is about 20 dollars more than the A-510.

The camera will be used for snapshots, sending pictures throug e-mail

between friends and relatives...And this will be my first digital

    camera ever .

    Thank for your help.

  12. You do not need the software to cancel these PF. I have the 1V and the software. If you are missing 2 shooting modes that means the PF 1 is set with your camera. Do the followings : 1/ Press the <M.Fn> button to set the personal function mode. Each time you press the button, the icon on the lower left of the LCD panel change.Press the button until the <#> icon appear. 2/ Turn the Main Dial to select the Personal Function No. ( Only the personal functions that have been set with the camera appear . And in your case it is PF-1 ( shooting modes). 3/ Press the <C.Fn> button. The button toggles the Personal Function setting between 0 and 1 . "0" disables the Personal Function and "1" eables it. To disable all the Personal Functions, press the <CLEAR> button. 4/ Press the shutter button halfway : the setting is finalized and the LCD panel return to its normal display.

If on the left of the LCD panel still has the <#> icon : one or some of the Personal Function/s is/are still set.

    Hope this helps you.
