Hi,
This is a question regarding the cleaning of lenses:
Other than lens cleaning tissue, what other solution are safe to use
to clean the lens? I have heard and used petroleum distillate such
as Zippo lighter fluid to clean rosin off $10,000+ strings
instrument and it does (so my teacher says) no damage to the varnish.
I would assume that if it is safe to use on such delicate
instrusments, that it would also be safe to be used on EOS lens?
Or am I wrong in assuming so? Has anyone tried or have heard of any
similiar usage of Zippo lighter fluid?
Thanks

So in another terms I would use evaluative then AE lock for the exposure without flash then FEL for the flash exposure?
Since for the cfn, it's either AE lock or AF lock for the * button.

yeah sorry, forgot, I'm using EOS 3.
thx

Ok, sorry guys, this is a (slightly more) serious question, no more
screwing around.
Now I have been thinking, if I were to do just a regular (multi)
spot metering using FEL then EOS would have no problem at doing so.
Similiarly, using FEL with 580EX on would trigger the FE lock, which
I also understand.
But what if I want to do spot metering of the scene and then use
flash as fill? "Spotting" using FEL, with 580EX on, would only
enable the FE lock.
What are my options?
Please explain.
Thanks

awesome, I can save up $300ish then, nice!
Canon kick ass!

thanks guys for the link...
for some reason i though the "fastness" refers to the speed of the AF, so that's where the confusion came in.
after spending hrs reading those link it makes more sense to me now.
thx

Question regarding EOS' metering system in general:
Is the meter accurate/good enough on its own?
Will I survive without a light meter (until I could afford one)?
Thx
-
Sorry, still new to EOS system
Could anyone explain to me how are those numbers ie 1.4, 4, 5.6 etc
related to the speed of the lens and how that affects focus? thx
Also, is that Canon 15mm Fisheye lens good/good enough for shoots
like this? And what makes the L series lens so much better and
soooooo much more expensive? thx, ur answers helped a lot.

Sorry to ask this but I'm really confused with the FEC and the
effective range on the LCD panel on the 580EX (which also applies to
my confusion with the direction of all compensation values).
Now, when I try to reduce the flash output (-# , minuse values), the
effective range is further? and when I go to "+" values, the
distance is closer? Isn't that reversed? (this applies to the
exposure compensations too. which way does the sign goes? does a "-"
means a smaller aperture size or a smaller f-stop number = larger
aperture? and vice versa? and what do those numbers desiginate
anyway? I have totally forgotten what my teacher said...sorry)
I am really confused now, PLEASE HELP!

Hey all,
I was trying to use dep mode to shoot, with 580EX on...but with the
flash on, dep was disabled.
Could anyone explain to me why this is?
Or was it a stupid combo to use in the first place?
Please gimme some advise.
Thanks

I think it really depends if the Japanese really did come up with EOS on their own or if they paid ppl for it...personally I do think Eos isn't a pretty sounding name, but heck, it's a bloody nice line of cameras...I'd still call it Eos since it's shorter...speaking of which...What do u guys call the Canon EOS 1 Ds Mark II? It's just too bloody long...I just have to call it Ds Mark II...heck with all these long-as names

I'm a newbie to this forum so bear with me.
The kit is less than 4 months old: a refurb EOS 3, 28-105mm f/4-5.6
USM, 580EX, a strap (a j/k) and a nikon (yes a nikon,) camera bag
(sorry the bag was on sale for $10CND)
Long story short, refurb had a prob with hotshoe, sent back to alkit
to fix, now testing it out. went to this local skating park to test
test out all functions (mostly focusing - I am extremely anal with
sharp focus; and the flash sync)
I've found with the AI servo (1 shot) that it's hard to focus? (shot
3 rolls - 1/3 came out with berely acceptable focus) -> any
suggestions? I read (I was studying this forum for 3 hrs now) that
if I shot continuous mode it'd be better? but I only have a sec (coz
I was shooting skaterboys jumping over barrels), so how would I
achieve sharp focus with prof. sports photographer efficiency? How
How could I achieve better results with this entry-level lens?
What should I be looking for in a lens? Also, E-TTL is not
intellegent as I thought or did I have the settings combo not set
correctly?(I was mostly using P, and Tv - @ 1/200)
EOS overriding Tv or Av?
in Canon EOS Mount
Posted
Hi,
I've recently tried to use Tv and Av on my EOS 3, problem I've had
is that when I chose a setting, and press shutter half way, EOS 3
automatically overrides my chosen setting on the display. I thought
that was weird.
Please advise.
Thanks
